Sounds like you have a control panel and/or control board issue. Normally when operator functions fail or "halfway" work the main control board, associated keypad, or wiring are the likely suspect. Now...another remote possibility could be the door latch not closing properly. However, this would affect ALL functions. I hope this helps you.

Run a service test for kitchenaid dishwasher

Did you check behind the toe-kick panel for the tech data sheet? Assuming that you have checked and that it is missing, there here is the "secret keystrokes" that will make most Whirlpool/ KitchenAid/Kenmore/Maytag diswashers enter the diagnostic cycle:
Heated Dry - Normal - Heated Dry - Normal; or
High Temp - Air Dry - High Temp - Air Dry; or
Hi Temp Scrub, Energy Saver Dry, Hi Temp Scrub, Energy Saver Dry; or
High Temp Wash, Heated Dry, High Temp Wash, Heated Dry.

Note: On some of the newer Whirlpool, Kenmore, KitchenAid dishwashers, you start the diagnostic cycle by rapidly pressing the 3 left-most keys in the following sequence: 1 2 3, 1 2 3, 1 2 3.

Led light flashes 4 times, pauses then repeats

Which light blinks 4 times and pauses wash normal heavy etc if the model in the blue box is correct the to enter diagnostic press any 3 keys within 8 seconds I usually use normal and the 2 keys to the right all lights should light up if touch pad is up top where you had to open door to accomplish this then close the door after a pause the clean light will begin to flash example 7 flashes pause 1 flash these are your fault code it will do this 3 times for each code. The tech sheet should be behind the toe panel located below the dishwasher door which just repeats what I explained.

Low water level

Try to unstick the float. The float tells the DW how much water is in it at any given time. It is shaped like a mushroom on the bottom of the DW basin. Gently pick it up and set it back down. Does it seem free? Try the cycle again.

Runs forever! even on Normal wash...help !!

Check to make sure you heating element has not failed. Dishwashers of today heat the water periodically through out the cycle and if the element has failed. The heating delay light is the indicator that tells you that it is trying to heat the water.

Runs forever! even on Normal wash...help !!

The most obvious failure would be the mechanical timer that is behind / part of the knob used to select the cycle.

But, you may want to inspect the heating element in the sump area -- some dishwashers will wait (and wait) for the water temp to come up high.

Good Luck!
