SOURCE: make noise during wash cycle, has no agitator action and no spin during spin cycle/drain cycle

Looks like the bearings may have failed. TURN OFF the POWER and try and rotate the agitator/tub by hand. If it is jammed you should investigate why. Possibly caused by bearing failure or something wound around spindle.

Take care and do not attempt to investigate the problem without first disconnecting from the mains!

SOURCE: Loud banging noise durning washing machine spin cycles.

First plug off the wall. Open the machine from behind to examine if any shock-absorbers(known as dampers) or springs have come off or broken. Your dealer could help with spares. But you could do the job yourself.

SOURCE: motor just hums during spin cycle

This sounds like the drive belt may have snapped off. It's usually located on the bottom of the washer. If you're able, tilt the washer on its side and recover the broken belt. It usually connects from the drive motor to the tensioner, then to the transmission. Take the belt to your local appliance parts store so they can match it up with a replacement. You may want to copy down the actual model and serial numbers down so the parts counter can provide a more accurate and exact replacement. Please let me know if you need any further help with this.

I hope this helps! :)

The spin cycle is very noisy. What could be the problem?

hi robyn.
A washer making a loud noise during spin cycle can also be caused by a faulty drive pulley. The pulley is what the belt (if applicable to yourwasher) rides on to spin your washers tub. The pulley can be made of plastic or metal. It could be simply worn out or just loose.27 Jul 2015

Could the spinning barrel be off center, what has come off?

Front load washers often use a self contained electric drain pump and the motor may be worn or damaged and require the complete pump to be replaced. Remove any foreign objects or replace the worn or damaged pump, thencarefully tighten the hose clamps and check for leaks before installing the cabinet or front panel.

All front-load washing machines have shock absorbers that are used to dampen the tub movement in the spin cycle. The shock absorbers or struts are attached to the base frame and to the outer tub and you will need to remove the front panel or the rear panel to access them. When shock absorbers weaken or become damaged, the machine will often make a loud banging sound during the spin cycle and if the symptom is not corrected, can lead to damage of other components. Inspect the shocks for signs of broken attachments, leaked fluids or a weakened dampening action and replace both shocks if worn. Remove power from the appliance before attempting this repair.

Some models of top-load washers use tub dampening straps to cushion the movement of the tub during the spin cycle. There are four straps attached to the top of the tub and to each corner of the cabinet

Also There are four suspension rods that suspend the tub and allow the tub to free float. If the suspension rods are noisy, there will be a squeaking noise during wash. You can fix this by putting bearing (lithium base) grease in the cup that each rod rests in. If it continues to squeal replace all four rods the cups come with the rods, replace them as well.

If your washer has a loud banging noise during spin the balance weight may be loose. This weight is to counter act the weight of the motor so you will find the weight directly behind the motor. Sometimes simply tightening the bolts will fix your issue but if the bolts are stripped out get some bolts slightly longer than the original bolt to allow you to put a locking nut on the bottom side of the mounting plate. If the weight is broken replace it.

Lastly Washer vibration can be caused by a broken counter balance spring. Ur washer may be equipped with one or more counter balance springs which help to absorb the natural movement of the spinning tub. If a counter balance spring fails the tub might lean in one direction more than another and it will shake and cause vibration.
By the way my advice is free cuz God is good!

Is off balance during the spin cycle mor often

I have a 10yr old Maytag Atlantis model MAV7258AWW. Here is how I solved my balance problem. It appeared that I had two problems. One was that it would not spin fast, the second was that it would spin off balance. To get the washer to spin fast like it should I had to open the lid then close it, re-engaging the spin cycle. I opened the top and watched the motor engage in the spin cycle. with the top open, I would open and close the lid activating the lid switch. Each time I closed the lid I noticed that the motor would move a little bit more on its glides to tighten the belt. Sort of like a automatic adjuster. The motor is designed to pivot one way for the agitator the other way for spin. If the motor does not pivot correctly, the belt will not tighten and will slip. I removed the front panel, cleaned and lubed the pivot area. Now the motor glides on the pivots like it should. I ran the spin cycle and the motor slid all the way to one side like it should, the belt tightens and the spin cycle spins. Now that the spin cycle works, quess what?? The balance problem is fixed as well. It appears that the reason that the tub was going off balance was because the belt was slipping not spinning the tub at maxium speed as designed causing the off balance problem. The tub was not spinning fast enough causing the off balance problem. I have ran several loades in the washer and not a problem. I did replace the snubber, it was worn out but it still spun off balance. I hope this helps to all who have a balance problem.

GE WSM2780W Stacked Washer spin cycle

With no clothing in the wash tub take the following steps:
1. remove the front cover from the wash tub
2. run a full cycle of laundry and observe the tub's behavior

Potential Solutions:
A. If the tub begins to shake wildly during a full wash cycle with no clothing in it then you will need to adjust the 3 large springs on each side of the tub until the unit is working in a more-balanced position. This is simple to do by hand. If the tub appears to be shaking too far forward, then unhook the 2 large springs in back so they are tighter. Then run a full wash cycle again with no clothing.
* note: there are smaller springs too - you don't have to adjust these to fix your issue

B. If the tub works fine with no clothing during a full wash cycle, then try to load your clothing in a more balanced fashion. For example: if your wash load is only a small kitchen or bath rug then when the unit spins it will spin off balance with a wet & heavy item on only one side of the tub.

C. If you'd like to replace the 3 large springs, I can get you the part numbers. There are specific springs for both sides of the wash tub and they are different part numbers. The full replacement of the 3 large springs can be done by hand.

thanks,
Chris I.
