The disk is so scratched that the xbox can't read the security sector so the x box thinks its a media CD. I would return the game for a better one. Or you can take the game to blockbuster or game stop, anyplace that rents out games or movies and you can have then run it on their DVD buffering machine.
It's more than likely the DVD drive. Try a different game or 2 to be certain. If you are still getting that issue try running a CD based cleaner a few times. If that doesn't solve your issues contact Microsoft as a recently purchased console should be fully under warranty.
the xbox 360 has a dual layer laser reading device.
when a dual layer game is inserted, the laser powers up to read the 2 different layers. if you get the message " This is an xbox 360 Game please put it in a 360 Console" Or Similar. you have a faulty read laser.
the success rate of re-fitting a laser, and calibrating it to work. without tools such as an ohm meter or similar. and knowledge of calibrating the pot to a specific value. are very rare and mostly unsucessful.
i,d suggest purchasing a new dvd drive.
This will have to be carried out, by someone that has a way. of extracting the firmware key, from your existing drive. and injecting it into the new drive.
are you tring to play just xbox games or are they xbox 360 games because if they are just xbxo games you just need to go to the nearest gamestop and ask them to show you where you can buy a backwards comptiablity disc and the upload the software on to your xbox 360
