Re: HOW TO TURN ON OVEN
I found an Ad with a description of the burner knob operation. Unfortunately I found nothing on the oven knobs. However, it's possible that the oven knob operation is similar to the burner knobs...
* Dual burner operates by pushing in knob once for inside ring only (1,000BTU) and pushing in again to activate the outer ring (total 16,000BTU)
Hope that helps!

I wouldn't. The plastic will give off some very acrid, toxic fumes if you try to self-clean it. First use a damp sponge to wipe up the baking soda. After that, you might be able to turn on the oven just a little bit to soften the plastic residue, then carefully, use a putty knife to scrape up the plastic residue from the oven floor.
You could turn off the oven at the isolator switch. Turn it on again when you need to use it.
The time really only needs to be accurate when you make use of features like a delayed start when baking bread, or to stop baking meringues and let them cool slowly in the oven.
Just be sure to check that the Auto/Manual switch is set to manual unless you're doing the above type of baking.
It may be the bake element that has gone out. The self clean usually uses the broil element to heat the oven. And most oven will either put 120 volts to the broil element while baking or pulse the broil element while baking. This will cause the oven to get warm but not hot. Check the oven bake element it cound be bad or a wire may have burned off.
I understand that you have a fan running while you are baking. This is a totally normal function of your applliance. A cooling fan may automatically turn on and off to cool internal parts. It is normal, and the fan may continue to run even after oven is turned off.
1. Add baking soda to a cool oven.
Sprinkle a thick layer of baking soda onto the bottom of the oven. Make sure the oven is completely cool before you attempt to do this.
2. Spray the baking soda with water.
Using a spray bottle, spray the baking soda down until it is damp, not saturated. The water and baking soda together will help break down the food particles.
3. Continue spraying baking soda as it dries out.
Every few hours spray the baking soda down again to keep it moist. Continue this process over several hours, spraying water as the baking soda begins to dry out.
4. Scrape out the baking soda.
Scrape the baking soda out of the oven. Food residue will be scraped out with the baking soda.
5. Rinse the bottom of the oven out thoroughly.
Yes, you'll still have to rinse out the oven, but next time you cook your food won't have an added taste of oven cleaner.
If I had the rest of your model number I may find what Tappan now Fridgedaire Electrolux reccomends, but this is the least toxic. Have a great day..
Buy an empty spray bottle and some baking soda.
You'll find that baking soda is cheap -- especially if you
buy in bulk.
Using a funnel, place 3 heaping teaspoons of baking soda into the spray
bottle.
If the baking soda clogs the funnel, unclog it with water.
Wash the baking soda into the spray bottle by running water into
the funnel.
Fill the bottle with water. After the bottle fills, you'll notice
undissolved baking soda that has settled at the bottom of the bottle.
Shake the spray bottle so that all the baking soda dissolves in
the water.
Unless all the baking soda is fully dissolved, some of it gets left
behind in the bottom of the bottle as a residue.
When the oven is cold, spray the baking soda and water solution on to the
black stuff. Do this one or more times a day.
It is important to work on a cold oven for two reasons:
Safety. You can't burn your hands if the oven is cold.
Containment. You'll get baking soda all over the house if you start
with a hot oven. I know. I've done it.
Starting with a cold oven solves the problem.
Use your oven as you normally would. Keep spraying wet baking soda on
to the top and sides of the interior of the oven between meals.
Wet baking soda will break up the carbon sticking to the sides of the
oven. Keep spraying baking soda on to the black stuff between meals
until it is all gone.
Don't worry about getting baking soda in your food. Baking soda
is one of the prime ingredients of many recipes such as corn bread.
It is safe to add it to your food should you do so inadvertently.
Using this technique, the black carbon that was stuck to the sides of your
oven will flow to the floor of your oven and settle there as a black carbon
powder that can be wiped away.
Your oven will look like a mess while this is in process. Choose a good
time to do this.
At your convenience, when the oven is cold, wipe your oven with
a damp cloth.
Eventually, you will have to wipe down your whole oven with a damp
cloth. The black carbon and baking soda will will settle together
on the bottom of your oven. Both are easily removed with a damp cloth.
In theory, you will have to apply the spray bottle many times but
you should only have to wipe down your oven once. Try not to wipe
down the oven prematurely as this removes the active ingredient that
makes the whole thing work -- the baking soda.
Important! Let the baking soda accumulate so that it can do its job.
Repeat, repeat, repeat until all the black carbon is gone.
I had a similar problem when you turn the oven on it would shut off either on broil or bake,I tried switching the lock for the oven cleaner back and forth and now the oven works.
