It may need a software update. Download and install the latest version of WEBUPDATER to your computer from http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27

Connect your satnav to your computer and run the webupdater program. It will find any updates that are available. Select all updates and download them. When the update is complete you'll get optional updates. You don't need to download these unless you wish to.

To update your nuvi, all you need to do is to connect your nuvi to an internet connected computer and the updates will show on the lower left of your computers screen, click on it and it will update it with the latest software version and maps.
You can also go to your nuvis website and search for latest updates. Just click on the map link and a list will pop up under the map link, select update maps if it is maps you want to update. It will ask you to choose your device from a list, after choosing your nuvi 255w then it will show you the latest maps for your gps, but you have to install its plug ins first.

I've just experienced the same issue. I spoke with a Garmin tech about this and explained that I had also tried using the reset button, several different outlets, and the USB cable. The tech seemed very familiar with this issue and immediately recommended that I download the most recent software update from their website, then leave the unit unplugged for 24 - 48 hours to fully discharge the battery. He claimed that the unit was actually on, but a software glitch prevented both the reset and power buttons from functioning and also prevented anything from being displayed on the screen. He suggested that once the battery has completely drained, it will power up again when plugged into the USB port of your computer. The software update is said to help prevent the problem from recurring. I am still waiting for the battery to discharge so I have been unable to get this fix to work for myself yet.
