Ok, there is a short inside but the cord at the iron may be the problem. You need a CSA cord replacement if that is the case. Best idea is to scrap it in the blue box. If you are short of funds, try opening from the top and look at it as a learning experience. Oh with the plug not in the wall.

try to open the terminal box of your flat iron use the ohmmeter test one prod on line one of service cord of plug to line one if you got a resistance or continuity it means line one of your cord is ok together with the line 2 test it possible your cord damage or try to test the heating element if has a resistance it means good or try to adjust the setting on rotate knob or fuse busted replace it.

If I was you I would either go to the Sunbeam site and in the search box enter the model name and number and get a download a manual for fixing the iron or troubleshooting problems. If that don't work Send the Iron back to the company for a new one.

This type of iron is called a steam station iron.
The box is the water tank and it is this that you need to fill with water. You should be able to find a small spout on the water tank in order to fill it. These irons produce a huge amount of steam and should make the ironing a breeze once you get used to it.
