All you can do is use the PSOne/PS2 'smoothing' options under the PS3's settings. Just remember that the games were designed for standard definition televisions so your Hi-Def set will really show their ugliness!

I start start my ps3 up and somtimes the screen is all pixilated also it only seems to play ps2 games and dvds

Try a hard reset by holding the power button down when the system is running (hold it until you hear 2 beeps then let off) this will reset the system to factory default

PS3 is backwards compatible with PS2 games, and USED to play them

In Playstation Store, you should download (for free) the PS2 SYSTEM DATA (something like this).
if you have formated your system, the files were erased, and the games won't play until you download the backwards comparibility files again.

Will not play dvd's or ps2 games

Ps2 Games are not for the ps3.but the older ps3's will play them. With D.V.D.s this maybe a dust issues or the brand of dvd that your burning to. PS3 has less Ram then the Xbox360 but the PS3 has faster Ram. PC Are The Way to go cheap, fast and easy to fix.

Ps3 updates causing disk error

poppin it into another machine will do nothing. its the drive thats bad, not the machine.
U can buy another drive if u wish as they are not that expensive and worth it and u will still play ps2 games on it as the HD has nothing to do with backwards compatibilty.

u can buy a 160 gig drive for around $100 sometimes less and in ur ps3 manual it tells u how to replace it.

PS3

Ps3 supports over 1000 ps1 and ps2 titles. Make sure you hook your ps3 up to the internet and download the latest firmware updates. Odds are your system will be able to play all or most of your ps2 games once you update the ps3 online.
