The first thing to do is eliminate the external power supply, the DC jack and the socket on the laptop that it plugs into. My experience has been that damaged jacks are far more common than damaged sockets. Usually what happens is that someone trips over the power cord and puts strain on the cable where it attaches to the jack. A quick test is to plug the DC jack into the laptop and while holding the jack still wiggle the cable where it attaches to the jack. If that doesnt do it try holding the jack and wiggling it in the laptop socket. One or the other should cause a break in the power and youll know what to get fixed or replace. If those are the usual suspects, however, if they all test out OK then let us know what the results were and we?ll pickup from there. Any additional information will be helpful such as LEDs, how long it takes to shut down and any issues that may have led up to this.

Hi, I have a toshiba equium A110-233, a little elderly I know ! All was working fine until I turned it on a couple of days ago and now only get the initial toshiba screen then nothing, not even the cursor...

Hi shirley_ann1,

This problem that you have with your PC is a NO BOOT issue. After getting the startup Toshiba logo it's not booting up to your Windows. This could be a hardware or software problem depending on the result of the diagnostics that I'll be walking you through below, but definitely this issue can still be fixed.

Here's how:

1. If this is a software issue you can determine it by booting up on safe mode. To go to safe mode:
  • Shutdown the computer then turn it back on
  • The moment you turn on you PC keep on tapping F8 button until Safe Mode menu shows.
  • Then select Safe Mode, press enter.
If you'll be able to boot up on Windows using Safe Mode then you just have to reload your operating system. You will use the recovery disc that goes with your machine when you purchase it.

2. If it's a hardware issue you will not be able to boot up even on Safe Mode or even go to BIOS when you keep on tapping F2 during startup. This means your harddrive is corrupted or defetive. It needs to be reimaged or replaced.

Hope this will help you resolve your concern.

Thank you for using Fixya.

My Toshiba Portege A600 (about six months old) is great in Safe Mode, but when I try to enter Normal Mode, it starts OK up to the log-in page (where I enter my password), then the screen goes black and I'm...

Since It starts OK in safe mode but not in normal bootup mode (which a lot or programs startup automatically and can be the cause of the normal startup problem). Did you install any new software before this problem happens? You may try using system restore to go back to the day before the problem started, it can be done in safe mode.

Toshiba Satellite Automatic shutdown on startup

Try F8 upon start-up and use safe mode to boot then try a doing a system restore, it may have installed an update automatically that conflicts somehow

Laptop has trouble staying on and when it does the mouse freezes up as soon as desktop is loaded

1. remove all unnecessary items from the startup
2. update mouse driver
3. try booting Windows in safe mode if things work OK there,
4. try booking with more drivers.

Windows XP Media - Service Pack 3 download, Wont startup after download shut down.

Keep the battery unplugged but make sure you have the power cord still plugged in, and when you see the toshiba screen press F8 i believe or F1. In there you need to change to the boot order so that the CDrom boots first if you want to try and restore from CD

Dell inspiron 1525 not enough memory?

hi jerry.... its not the problem with charger cord... and it should not be the problem with mother board too. its probably due to more programmes installed on C drive and computer is trying to load more programmes into memory while startup...

switch on the computer and keep tapping F8 key continuously on keyboard.. (stop tapping when you look at advanced boot options)..

select the option safe mode... and hit enter.. you will reach to desktop in safe mode... then
start -> run -> type msconfig and enter
select startup tab -> click disable all..
and apply. ok. then try restarting computer.... even if it exists.... go to safe mode again... and try un-installing un necessary softwares which you dont require.....

Have you checked whether the Power Adapter of your Notebook is a 65 Watt or 90 Watt ??

If you are connecting a 65 Watt adapter with the Notebook, try wiht a 90 watt one from any other Notebook if available..

Notebooks with Nvidia Graphic card need a 90 Watt Power adapter to supply the adaquent power required for the Graphic Card and a 65 Watt adapter may not be able to supply the required power.

because of virus you start windows in safe mode an try booting if it work in safe mode > go to run > type= msconfig > disable all in startup, reboot windows see if it works if not please reinstall windows xp.....
