Try hotairing (set 4 to 5, medium airblow)the main board, check also the mechanical connection or terminals ( I assumed you already did that).

Try with the side display closed. Does the viewfinder show the pix OK? If so, then the problem is isolated to the LCD display. There is a small ribbon cable between the camera body and the LCD that sometimes gets a small crack in it. Replacing the cable usually fixes the problem.

How to troubleshoot a video camera when the LCD screen is dark or has no display, in a Sony handycam DCR TRV22E mini

If you see correct picture in Eye Piece view finder but dark picture in LCD that shows problem with connecting flexible wire between LCD board and Camcorder main board. It got cracked/ damaged or broken after some time due to open/ close of LCD in its position.
Replace that flexible wire and problem will be solved.
Post back further question if you have any.
Thanks.

Sony cam LCD screen scrolling

Sony replaced the flexible board cables (FP-621 and FP-610) on my uncles camera. About 8 months after the repair the camera screen doesn't always turn on. I can get it ti turn on if the lcd is rotated towards the person being recorded. I think it might be a problem with a switch on one of those flexible cables.

Sony DCR-SR200 screen slowly "scrolls" vertically like the V-Hold on an old television

After researching various flexible cable numbers from different posts, I found that the SR-200 uses a unique cable, FP-610, part number 187145711. This has been discontinued and replace with part number 187145721 (same cable also used in DCR-SR300).

If you are in doubt with your camera, just take it apart up to the point of seeing the ribbon cable. The part number is printed on the side.

I found two sources for this so far, www.nexttronics.com and https://servicesplus.us.sony.biz/sony-parts.aspx. Price ranged from $30 to $40 plus shipping.

Sony DCR-HC42E LCD not working

(this is a copy of my post from another page, but is relevant to this problem) I have opened my camera and found that the flexible circuit/ribbon cable that connects the LCD to the inside of the camera is broken. This is due to poor design, in which the flexible circuit cannot withstand the constant movement of the LCD.
I have managed to buy a new cable from a Sony repair dealer, and will attempt to fit it later on this week.

The part number for the new flexible cable is:
Ref no. 171
1-864-761-11
FP-185 FLEXIBLE BOARD

if you are interested in how I get on with it, you can mail me at [email protected]
I won't bother trying to complain to Sony directly, because it is quite apparent that they really couldn't give a toss.
I have now successfully repaired my camera with a new flexible circuit/ribbon cable, and have made some quick notes that can be found here:
http://www.rubbishworld.com/open%20camera%20part%201.pdf
and here
http://www.rubbishworld.com/open%20camera%20part%202.pdf

Good luck.
