Hi, I recently bought an 19-inch widescreen LCD Acer (al1917w lcd) monitor without checking in advance whether I might come across any resolution problems, given that my display adapter (video and graphics card) is not exactly the best of its kind. I am running Windows XP and the adapter is a 32 MB intergrated S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR. The highest resolution I can get using what Windows claims to be the best / newest driver is 1280 x 1024 (other options are 1024 x 768 and 800 x 600 and the same problem happens if I use them). Everything on my monitor now appears too wide, especially images which appear distorted. Recommended resolution for this Acer is 1440 x 900. What could I do to make that resolution an option? Is that possible at all with my current video card? If I definitely need a new graphics card, what do you recommend? I connect the monitor to the PC using a VGA cable. My card does not support a DVI cable so I can't try using that. Thanks in advance!
Get a new video card, you dont need the best video card to support 1440*900. It is affordable and the best solution.

I have the same problem! Here's what I did: Go into the Display control panel, go to SETTINGS, click on ADVANCED, and then on the ADAPTER tab, then on LIST ALL MODES. There are several 1400 settings. Try them out and see which one is best for you.

the guest comment was from me, Dimitaer. I am not satisfied with the offered solution, as it does not really help.
Could anyone else suggest a better solution?
