Replacing Server HDD

Hi, I have a Dell PowerEdge R710. The HDD in the system have 32mb cache. Would it be okay to replace them with HDDs that have 64mb cache? HDDs are same speed and transfer rate.

Hello here is the homepage:

Yes, that will be okay.

But a SSD harddrive is much faster, than the old mecanical one.
I know they are a little more expensive, but you will see a speed improvement, you have newer seen before.

Good luck

SOURCE: Does Dell PowerEdge 4600 Server support DVD ROM

I am working on one of these now and yes, it should boot from DVDROM. Be aware that it is a notebook style drive and there are no onboard IDE or SATA controllers, so once the drive dies you're in for a wallet hit. Same goes for the floppy drive which is integrated with the DVDROM. Even worse, the presence of the broken floppy usually means a USB floppy drive won't help when loading windows drivers at install time.

Problem to install poweredge r710 can nor detect sata hard disk

That is an impressive piece of kit. Is it under warranty ?
You should probably have it professionally serviced but you can always check whether it detects a known good drive. You can also test the suspect drive in another system.
Before you do anything ask yourself: What changed last (or recently)? There find you will that which disturbs the force.

Make sure that the connectors are all fully inserted. This means both the power and the data cables. Try different cables and a different power plug.

  1. VIA a serial cable (looks like monitor cable is not). You have use something like telnet. Old school and very technical.
  2. Just connect a monitor, keyboard, and mouse and treat like a regular PC. Can't go wrong.

Hi , seagate 1tb Expansion portable drive S/H: 2GHY01LD error in page operation plz help

Go to Start, right-click on My Computer icon and select Manage
When you go to manage, select Disk Management.
Click on Disk Management and you will notice all the disks (HDDs and any removable devices on your right column.

Click on the Seagate 1tb HDD,
(1) Note the file system
(2) Note the Status of the drive
(3) Note Fault Tolerance
(4) Then Notice the HDD if it is Basic or Dynamic

If the HDD is Basic, right click on it and create a partition.
Then move some of the Data on to the new partition to free up the old partition. Restart the computer and abserve the results...

That usually happens when the Hard Disk driver is running out of space or you have less RAM..

Dell PowerEdge R710 Installation error I have the same problem while installing Windows Server 2003 installation process reach to the step asking press F8, when pressing F8 it says no Hard Drive were...

ok you will need to get the windows 2003 drivers for your raid controller and put them on a floppy disk. when you first boot off the cd you will see a prompt to press f6 if you need to install any additional drivers. insert the floppy disk and select which driver you wish to load.
you should be able to see the hard drives now to partition/format.

Suitable agp for playing gta 4

The AGP slot on this system is 4X

The two cards that were tested on this from Dell are
ATI 64MB Radeon VE 7500 ATI 32MB Radeon
The maximum card you can connect to the system any PCI video card not more than 128 MB. As the motherboard and the power supply would not support it

Thanks

Need to add hard drive and memory to emachine tower 333

Okay, this is what you do, I don't really think that Win 98 supports dual HDDs, but I think I can help.

If you have a IDE Dual Cable (plug into the Motherboard and have two connectors attached), Do you see the mini plug by the connector on the HDDs? (Usually white or different color) on the Original HDD, put the miniplug to "Master" and the second (added) HDD to "Slave" or you may be able to use the "Select" on both.

What I do recommend though is going ahead and burning all of your precious data to CDs and buying a newer HDD.

Instead of 4 Gigs, get something around 80 Gigs.

If you give me the motherboard specifications, you may be able to update your RAM to 128-256 MB

Dell PowerEdge 1800

Hi satti73,
I need you to explain your problem a little more clearly.
I think you are saying that when you press the ON/OFF you get a display? What is the display that you get? How old is this machine? What other events have taken place leading up to this problem. Do you get and error messages on the monitor? DO you get any sort of sound emitting from the server when you press the ON/OFF butoon?
