What is the difference between an ale and a lager?

Budweiser American Ale was an American-style amber ale produced by Anheuser-Busch under its Budweiser brand. Introduced in September 2008, and discontinued in 2011, American Ale was meant to appeal to beer enthusiasts who were looking for a more complex flavor than the popular Budweiser lager.
It had 5.3% alcohol by volume and was widely available across the United States. A 3.2% alcohol by weight version was available in select states as determined by local laws.

Each style of beer has a certain guideline for suggested drinking temperatures. Here are a few:

- Wheat beer and pale lager= 45-50F
- Pale ales and amber/dark lagers= 50-55F
- Dark ales, porters, stouts= 55-60F
- Fruit beers= 40-50F

All of these beer styles are quite hoppy and bitter. They are not too different from one another, as they are within the same beer family; however they do have a few distinctive variances.

• Pale ales - brewed with lightly roasted 'pale' malts and have a nice balance between hops and malt

• IPA's - much hoppier than pale ales - can be found in both English and American styles, with the Americans making a more hoppy version

• Double IPA's - an American style take on pale ales that loads the beer full of hops, sometimes doubling or even tripling the normal amounts found in traditional pale ales

A lager is a type of beer that is brewed at cool temperatures and creating using bottom fermenting yeasts. The most popular lagers are light in color and are generally highly carbonated.
