During gameplay or even during playing a dvd my ps2 will shutdown and the red light will start blinking. at first i thought it was maybe just the game i was playing but then it started to do so for all the disc's i insert into it. i would like to know why it is doing this and how i can fix it, if i can.

your eye is going bad. Get a cleaner to clean the eye. Its a disk with a small brush to clean debris from the eye. But you can try to use an air can to see if it helps. Also, it maybe you have a deep scratch on the game...which you are not noticing it. Maintain your ps2 clean from dust. And make sure it has plenty of ventilation and they area is clean from debris, dust or anything else that can get into it. Good luck. Rate plz
this has happened to me... i was first getting red ring of death then i fixed it and never got RROD again but it started freezing during gameplay, then at dashboard and then at the beginning until it couldnt start at all... this can be cause by overheating GPU and CPU causing them to bend and lose connection...just like RROD, or it can possibly be that component that reads and plays games, is screwed up...
it might be a problem in the wiring which would have to be fixed by an expert. also you could tey cleaning the disk tray using a compressed air can. you can find these cans at most place like walmart or electronic stores.
try to keep the box in a spot where it and the power brick can stay cool.... same thing happened to my first box eventually it got the rings of death like so many other xboxs out there... so if keeping it well aired dont work you need to ring micro soft and have it sent off for repairs before it suffers a system failure
Make sure the disk is compatible and not damaged.Try playing another disk and see what happens if you still do not get anything you may want to consider a xbox or 360 with remote control for dvds. Also check to see if ps2 has a remote for playing dvd disc. never worry!!
