I have a 99 kitchenaid(model KSRS2FGBL01) side by side that no longer gives me water. My red light was on for a while, then went green(no one will admit to resetting light, so not sure how it went back to green). So I replaced filter, turned water back on,nothing happened. I was sure that at 1 time, when using the water, it would have a click sound as if the unit was activated to disperse water. Now I hear nothing.Water isnt even going to ice maker. Is there another reset switch im missing, pump fuse blown, or .....? Im baffled.Hopefully you can help me. Thank you for your time
Your fridge utilizes a "dual coil" electro-mechanical water valve inlet system (the water from the wall is hooked up to it). One coil for the Ice Maker, the other for the chilled water. The chances of both valves failing at the same time are slim to none... and slim just left town. First, verify your filter installation. Remove it completely, 1/4 turn left and pull. Then reinsert it fully and lock it in solidly with a 1/4 turn right. Pull on it hard to make sure it's locked. Second, get a pair of slip joint pliers or a 7/16" open end wrench. Pull the fridge out from the wall and turn the water off. Remove the hose going into the fridge. Hold the hose in a bucket or pan and slowly turn the water on and let it run for a second to verify water. Then reinstall the hose back on the valve assy. Now, try your water dispenser. If this doesn't work, we can go deeper. Post back with your findings, please.
OK, I've seen this before. You changing the filter didn't cause the problem, it is purely coincidental that the problem occurred when it did. The Water side of your valve, I believe, has failed.
In order to safely test this, you'll need to purchase a tool. It's a "Volt Stick", no Home Owner should be without one, really. A great little tool to have around to quickly test "dead" power outlets and such. See one here...http://cgi.ebay.com/Greenlee-GT-11-Teste... With this tool in hand, you are armed to locate the problem. (Home depot carries these) Pull the fridge out and remove the cardboard cover back there. Now remove the 2 screws holding the valve in place and pull the valve out of the unit. You'll see two solenoids there w/2 wires going to each, you'll be testing the one that's connected to the larger (5/16") plastic tube. Remove the wire harness that's attached to this solenoid and place your new volt stick right between the wires. Now try to get some water out of the dispenser and look at your new Volt Stick, is it glowing? If it is, you have 120V to your valve, but the valve isn't opening. You'll need a new valve. Part number= 4389177, sells for about $55.00 at your local appliance parts store.
