The STR-DE545 My sound works intermittantly and when it does is only for about 30 seconds before it goes silent. About 6 months ago i placed an xbox 360 on top of the unit and the xbox does produce alot of heat. Im not sure if the xbox info was important but thought i should mention. I checked all the speaker connections and they are solid. Also, since the time i origianlly bought it, the manual power button does not work. you can only turn it on/off with the remote.

No sound or only a very low-level sound is heard from the rear speakers.

Sounds like a grounding problem. If the ground plug isn't missing or loose try plugging it into a different outlet.

I just turned my DVD player off when my STR-DE545 was still in DVD input mode and it came up LOCKED, maybe the input that you are using is not receiving a signal?

Are you connecting from your DVD player to receiver using an optical cable or simple AV cable?

took apart my reciever and found that the blue relays in back in the middle are starting to malfunction. I tapped on them and they clicked. When I tapped the right one, i got the sound back in my center speaker.

You should have access to receiver's format from remote or front panel. If the unit was moved around a lot and for a long period, the micro-processor may have locked due to ambient static electricity. Try unplugging unit for seversl hours, then re-try
