SOURCE: Inserting brads into my Stanley

I bought one of these guns today and I had the same problem and it took me about 2 hours to figure it out as the instructions were very poor. Here how to load the brad nails:-

(a) Pull the slider bar all the way out
(b) Place the brad nail stick on the left side, IN FRONT OF the slider, NOT in the narrow gap in front of the two arrows where it says "LOAD BRADS"
(c) The nail heads should be facing the handle of the gun
(d) Close the slider and lock it
(e) Try it out. I tried nailing hardboard onto chipboard. The lever at low power only put the nail in about 30%. On Hi power it went in about 80%.

you can try and go to Stanleytools.com and get to their knowledge base of FAQ or they have a direct way to contact the company for the information you need. I was on their site and have seen better to help the end user.

SOURCE: Bostitch nail gun loss of pressure, won't fire nail

Hello. I can help you. The nail gun you have uses 18 gauge brads. I would use only original Bostitch 18 gauge.

The one MM of difference you mention is the reason why you do not have the pressure you did have. Get rid of those 31MM brads and get the 18 gauge. Home Depot carries the Bostitch line. I would go there or to homedepot.com

How to load brads

My experience is limited with such things.

I have a couple of staple guns that will take brads, unfortunately the brads for one of them are no longer available. The brads had to have a shape and size similar one leg of the staple and a little of the bend at the top so they looked like an upside-down lower-case letter J and it was simply a matter of sliding a strip of brads into one side of the staple magazine.

The other staple gun will accept a more generic sort of brad in the same way but they have to be brads designed for use in that type of staple gun, known as a tacker so they aren't confused with the bigger staple/nail guns. The tacker will generally accept only brads of 20 or 18 gauge.

I suggest you ensure you have the right brads and then just load them like you would the staples.

Stanley stapler/nailer gun spits out more than one staple at a time

Sometimes a gun will double fire, quickly fires twice and is caused by worn trigger valve or safety foot. However, two staples driven with one shot indicates that the staples could be the wrong gauge for the gun or the driver is damaged. The driver of a nailer has a taper on one side of the blade to prevent the driver from hitting two staples. The taper will push the remaining staples back into the rails. Make sure that the taper is facing the staples and that the staples are correct for the gun.

The gun will fire staples, nails do not set.

Shoots staples fine but brads jam or bend. Check that the part called "guide bar", #35 on the parts diagram isn't getting stuck in the channel of part #30.

The guide bar retracts into the channel when driving a staple and springs out of the channel to guide brads.

The guide bar can get stuck in the channel if it's bent or gummed up. (Bent is likely the result of driving a brad into an obstruction.)

Bostitch nail gun number SB-21n1 is jammed and need manual to know how to unjam it or a solution online. Was using it in the staple mode and it jammed after about 5 staples. Was using bostitch staples.

Hello. Begin by disconnecting the air hose. That way you can not get hurt while removing the jam. Get a pair of needle nosed pliers and remove each of the jammed staples. They will pull out I assure you. Then Use a little WD-40 or compressor oil to lubricate the working mechanism at the firing head. IF you must loosen up the mechanism to remove all of the staple parts be sure to use the correct size allen wrench. I am providing link to a free manual for your gun in case you don't have one: http://bostitch.com/catalog_images/web_pdf/107674.pdf
