Philips 55PP93 5217 RED CONVERGANCE

My red convergance has gone out, and the picture has gone really blury. I have tried to adjust it but it will not. This is actually the second time it went out in about 2 years. The first time a local repairman came out and had to cart if off. He gave me an estimate for close to $1000 but we negotiated it down to $600. Is there anything I can do to fix the problem myself and if so where can I get the parts. I truly appreciate your help with this.

If you paid that much for the same repair, man I am sorry. A repair like this should cost no more then a few hundred bucks. OK how much solid state printed circuit board repair experience do you have? If none, NO you should not attempt this repair. If you know someone who does, Great. The convergence amp. IC's need to be replaced. there are two of them. You will need to locate them, order the right ones, as all convergence, Good Luck IC's are not alike, maybe that's why you set went bad again, as cheap or aftermarket type ICs will do this also. Goo luck, If you need more assistance with this, ands can find someone to assist you, or if you can do it yourself, please do not hesitate to get back with me.

I have a 60 inch Philips tv and the picture is kind of blury and a little red. What is tha caused from?

THREE possible reasons for this:
I will list each and describe for you:

1.) If redish picture go to a black and white channel; is the screen somewhat red or black and White? This is adjustable from inside the set.

2.) If colors are skewed or look like they have a red outline it may be a convergence problem. See attached photo.

3.) Some of these sets develop a problem with the coolant which is used to keep the face of each of the three tubes cool; it is called Glycol. You would have to remove back cover and with set on look into each of the three lens (red, green, blue) to see if you have a clear red, green and blue picture.

Which best describes your problem?

This is a common problem. Your convergence has gone out.

Common symptoms are...

1) 3D Video
2) Warped Video
3) Convergence menu does not adjust the red or blue correctly.

Philips rear projection color and pic problems

I had the exact same problem with my Magnavox TV. The screen would shrink then expand. After thrity minutes it would correct itself. Then one day it just broke - no sound and no video. I searched these forums but did not find clear instructions or kits on how to fix it. I gave up and called in a repair tech. He fixed my TV in less than 30 minutes.

To help others I documented the fix and created a repair kit and step by step quide on how to fix the problem. You can find it here. http://www.magnavoxhelp.com
