Hi, not good news, you have a bad surround module and this is a VERY difficult repair job, most techs send it to PTS and then they don`t get it right about 10% of the time either, Have a tech pull the board and send it out theres nothing you can do to repair it, sorry for the bad news, video-tek

I suggest to remove board and send out to be rebuilt. There are places that will do it and the wrok is guaranteed for a year. Tristate module does good work. They will do any update needed as well.

SOURCE: Was watching my Hitachi 53SWX10B

There's a good chance you have failing electrolytic capacitors either in the power section or the inverter section or both.
Any caps in these sections that look bulged at the top, or bulged/leaking at the bottom (look for discoloration of the circuit board around the base of the capacitor) need to be replaced.
If you repeatedly turn it off and on, eventually it'll probably stay on, but every time you turn it off, the unit will get harder and harder to start up until one day it just won't.
Sometimes you have to do the opposite to start it up and unplug it for some time and then try again.

If you aren't tech savvy, don't worry, read the rest of this solution and watch the videos.

If you are handy with a soldering iron and can identify the power supply and/or inverter / FM section for the backlights, an inexpensive handful of capacitors will likely fix you right up.
Match the capacitance on the capacitors. Go over voltage if you can, and still have them fit.
IE - it's not a bad idea to replace a 10V cap with a 16V or 25V or even a 50V, but don't replace a 680uF cap with a 500uF or a 1000uF (unless you are SURE it's only doing supply output ripple filtering,
and even then, you should go OVER, not under the uF rating).

Most of the caps that go are 10V 1000uF or 3300uF.

I found some great videos of the procedure (for many Samsungs with the same issue) on youtube.

As you can see, this issue spans plasma TVs, as well as large and small LCD TVs and monitors, amplifiers, computer power supplies and motherboards, and other electronic equipment.
The parts are cheap, and skill required is minimal.
A great parts source is Digi-Key, and you can order the parts online at www.digikey.com
They typically cost under a dollar a piece plus a flat shipping rate.
The parts usually arrive one business day later.
If you watch the third video, you will see that even someone with no soldering experience can perform these repairs as demonstrated by the woman in the video.

I have a Hitachi 53swx10b. The sound is starting to go out. It will work and then goes silent. I turn the tv off and back on and it will work. What is the easy fix?

There is not an easy fix for this problem with this model.

This set uses a surround sound audio board that processes all audio. Our shop no longer repairs the boards as it can be very time consuming and usually we send the board out to a national company for rebuild.

Problem is solder connections on tiny flat pack parts on both sides of the board break and I saw several where set was only months old, at that time Hitachi sold the board but it is no longer available from them

The Rebuilders (last time I used them) charged about 200 including shipping as you have to remove the board and send it in. Removal of the board is not hard and I can tell you where to look for it.

Sorry if this is bad news but it is what your problem is.

Let me know if you have questions as I am here to help.

I have no sound

Make sure the speakers are turned on. In the audio section of the main menu, under advanced settings there is a box labelled "internal speakers". Make sure this box is checked. I hope this helps. Thanks for using fixya.

53swx10b bowed picture

Double check your work for errors such as solder bridges or incorrect resistor placement. Look carefully anywhere solder could have dripped or splattered to cause the bowing. If you entered the digital convergence mode to touch it up, you will have to re initialize the magic focus for it to function. Good luck

Hitachi 53swx10b

The convergence Ics need replaced. In Hitachi, resistors and sometimes a coil needs replaced as well. The convergence/deflection PCB is available, but, the cost of that board is higher than having a servicer come to your home and repair the unit to component level. If you are not familar with this circuit, then call a servicer. Have them replace both ICs not just one. Make sure they are repairing to component level and not replacing the board. Hope this helps.
