Check the mirror and lenses inside the tv for any debris...if thats not it the crt fluid is likely gunked up....see the doc below...

Below are two of the most common problems encountered with projection TV sets.

Problem #1 - CONVERGENCE PROBLEM

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on Projection TV sets and a fairly simple DIY fix.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on - TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fixSPIDER WEBS in my screen - 47a7bc4.pnglow for a solution

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.

This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from TvRepairKits.com

Their kits include a step by step instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around video.

Pic of a set that needs the fluid changed. Notice how dull the colors are and how white the screen looks. The screen maySPIDER WEBS in my screen - 7c190d8.jpgred, orange, dull, etc.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from TvRepairKits.com . It includes replacement coolant, step by step instructions, support, etc.

SOURCE: cleaning my philips 51 inch

I had a spider also, take the screws off the upper back cover, there are around 10 screws. The lens, mirror and screen are now visible. I used a vaccum to get my spider out.

SOURCE: How do I dust inside the screen of a Rear projection TV?

Unplug tv first Usually you can pop the front screen off the set. There may be two hidden catches depending on the model. You may want to use two people for this. Once the screen is off removed the spider web and clean the back mirror with some windex, don't clean the inside of screen with any cleaner. Replace carefully the screen making sure it clicks back correctly

Spider webs behind screen

Pardon me but do you mean the screen has spider web looking patterns all over it? Or are you saying that spiders have crawled into your set and spun webs to catch flies?

If you have a spider web pattern problem then something has impacted your television screen and it is broken. You can check and see if your homeowner's insurance covers this, contact a service provider to see if they want to buy the television for its parts, and contact Mitsubishi to see if they offer a discount or pro rated rate on a new or refurbished television for when things like this happen.

If the problem is that you have spiders in your television I do not recommend vacuuming it out. I have seen people's televisions go out after they attempt to remove dust and webs that way. In this instance I also recommend contacting a servicer and the manufacturer.

Spider webs in tv

Easiest way to deal with this is unplug set and remove the back cover. The area inside is fairly open---with a swiffer type duster reach in carefully and remove all the spider webs. Go easy along the inside of the inner screen so you do not scratch it or damage it.

Let me know if you have questions.

If this helped you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

take the back cover off and vaccum them out, then dust it. If you can take it outside, compressed air does the fastest job of cleaning out dust.

Dirty screen but it is behind the outside screen.

The front screen with the frame does remove from the cabinet giving you access to the mirror and CRT lens. Remove the speaker grill, remove the four screws on the bottom of the frame, then working underneath a corner proceed to pop the rivets holding the frame to the cabinet. It will seem impossible at first because you have to use a lot of force to pop each one out. When reinstalling,a rubber mallet may help popping each rivet back in (I am not kidding when I say they are tight)

Spiderwebs under Screen, how do i clean it ?

Yes, I have seen this many times. Usually the best way is to remove the upper back cover and clean out the spider webs with a soft, dry cloth, but be careful because the mirror is mounted to the inside of the cover.

Trying To Remove Screen

I have a panasonic 53 inch and have had the same problem on numerous occasions. I removed the backing of the television, stuck my vaccuum cleaner hose inside the tv and sucked out the spider and the web.
