Hi there,
Well, I've had a few problems connecting my new router to my Windows Vista Laptop, I have connected the wires where instructed to & followed the steps correctly (to my knowledge) however, when I try to complete installation, it fails. The laptop and Router are compatible.
This probably isn't a very good explanation. But... I don't really know how to explain the problem, it simply will not complete the installation.

Hi Tradeboy,
This link should walk you though it, step by step!
http://www.geekgirls.com/windowsxp_home_network.htm
If you are using Vista, you will probley want this link, too. Click on Network icon.

In the past I have found the biggest issue with networking is firewalls, so I suggest you disable them just for testing and setting up your network.
Good Luck

connect the yellow (or blue?) ethernet cable to your computer, this should connect to the router (router should be ON)
Now, in internet explorer type 192.168.0.1 (this should be the defualt gateway for the router on default settings.
Now you're into the router, there should be a setup wizard button in there.
See if you can set it up using that
Regards
Tony

First use the Netgear setup wizard:-
Open Internet Explorer
Enter http://routeraddress e.g http://192.168.0.1
Click Setup Wizard (top left)
Then for With AOL make sure you have set these values in the Netgear
ADSL settings as PPPOa
VC 0,38
MTU setting to 1400
If you still have problems
Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> select AOL Connectivity
click Add/Remove -> use the repair option
Follow instructions to repair.
Once complete make sure modem is configured and switched on and
try restarting AOL.
It should search for your connection, find it and allow you to log on.

Connect to the Router,
Under the Security tab, select Services, then add, give it the name XBOX TCP/UDP, set start port as 3074 and end port as 3074, set type as TCP/UDP, click apply/ok. Do this again, giving it the name XBOX UDP, start port 88, end port 88, type UDP, then apply settings.
Now go to Firewall under the Configuration tab, under incoming click add, now select the service XBOX UDP/TCP from the drop down menu. select forward to specific IP address or similar and type in your Xbox's IP address e.g. 192.168.1.5, click log never, then apply ok. Do the same for XBOX UDP and your again click apply. That's it! you've successfully opened the necessary ports on your Router and told your Router that any incoming info on those ports should be sent to your Xbox.

Hi jerseyste, we want to help you with your question, but we need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?
are you referring to a blue ethernet cable being connected from the router in one of the four ethernet ports to the ethernet port in the laptop ?
in vista
go to command prompt or click start click on run and type in cmd and press enter.
type in ping 192.168.0.1
and press enter
can you see a valid reply on screen ?
if yes then go to an internet browser on laptop
type in 192.168.0.1
type in admin for user name
type in password for the password.http://documentation.netgear.com/dg834g/...http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/G...
Also check with internet service provider that your address can access their ADSL service.
ISP may be able to help you set up the router if you phone their support phone number .
