OK, yesterday I was playing Vice City and turned the consle off. I came back to the game an hour later and the PS2 said it couldnt load the disc. I also got this problem with DVD too. Could nyone offer some assistance?
If you still have the warranty retrun it at no charge. if you don't have the warranty, you more than likely need to have the lens cleaned or adjusted. Either one is about $35. not too bad. my sons have a problem with it all the time. i can clean the lens, but to adjusted i take it in. so you can open it up and try to clean it first. be careful, if you have the slim, don't open it up, those are difficult and always snap.
Could be that your console might have a Power Callibration error for the Laser Lens. If it's within the 90-Day Warranty period, you can send it into Sony's Service Center for repairs otherwise, you can call them and ask for an exchange,if your console has not been,Opened,Dropped or otherwise tampered with for $75+S/H they ship you out a fully refurbished unit.

That means the cd is not reading. Carefully clean the disc and put it back in. Start the game and if it comes on again, press the reset button and see if it will plat this time. Might have to do it 2 or 3 times, but if it is going to play, it will come on.
The Disk May Be Internally Damaged Or Externally Damaged, I Would Advise To Get A Disk Cleaning Machine. Or Inside The Console The Laser That Reads The Disk May Be Broken Best To Send It To A Game Shop Or Your Nearest Retailer.
I have had this problem numerous times. It's a glitch in the game, best I can figure. It corrupts your saved game. You might be able to go back to an earlier save and play from there. But the best solution, if that doesn't work, is to take out the game disc, turn on the ps2, click on Browse (with your memory card plugged in) and delete the Vice City file(s) on there. Then put your disc back in and start over from the beginning. It sucks, I know. I've had to do it. And once I was almost to a 100% completion. Bleh. =( Sorry.
