SOURCE: Disassemble Rear Projection TV

well the short answer is : Check the sides of the set see if there is a crack in the middle where you could separate them
Long answer: i would not recommend it even if it does, the screens are sensitive and could get dust inside the screen.
Never taken one apart that far. i suspect most tech don't because of the problems aligning and dust ect.. trying to get it back together.

SOURCE: Philips 60 inch rear projection screen is wacky!!

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

SOURCE: I have a 60 inch phillips rear-projection tv and

This TV needs the small signal board replaced. It is a 3X5inch video card. Call Anrews Electronics at 1 800 648 6657. Have the brand of your tv and its model #..Tell them you are looking for the SSB. Should be about a thousand of these and they will ask to return the old board. About $275 and you should get a dud return fee of $50. Pay close attention to the accompanying instructions. The Geometry set up is necessary to fill the screen of the tv. And good luck.

Stuck in video1 and video 6 mode. Can't get to tv

ok, all sony sets for the last 20 years or so have had a reset feature that ought to clear this up:

Set turned off and using Sony original remote:

Display, 5, volume up, power-----listen carefully this should take you to the tech menu.

hit 8 and reset should appear on the screen in red

hit enter and the reset should turn to green and set shut off.

Turn back on and see if it cured the issue or not.

HAVE PHILLIPS 60 INCH 5 YRS OLD GREAT PICTURE NO

Hi, check for any speaker switches around rear of set that may have been accidentally switched. Could potentially have a "hotel lock mode"
which some philips sets automatically entered after a set time (namely months) which limited volume settings. Your friendly local service technician may be able to help you out with that one
