Yes, I'd say the oven cavity TCO (flame sensor) probably got tripped by the heat of the fire.
There
should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit
behind the
control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is
very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.
At
our Web site, we have a video
available showing how to remove a typical
over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.
You can find
helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full
model number here.
Accessing some components (such as the oven cavity TCO) for testing and possible replacement will require you to remove the oven from the wall.
If
so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have
two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.
You can download GE
owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

THE DOOR HAS A SAFETY SWITCH THAT SHUTS THE UNIT OFF WHEN THE DOOR IS OPENED KEEPING YOU FROM GETTING "ZAPPED WITH RADIATION" ACTUALLY ITS JUST RADIO WAVES, ANYWAY THE JIGGLING OF THE HANDLE TO START IT IS WHATS HAPPENING THERE. IT COMING ON IS JUST A SHORT IN THE SWITCH THAT MAY BE FROM AN ALREADY SET TIME, OR ITS JUST MAKING CONTACT WHERE ITS NOT SUPPOSED TO. ANYWAY YOU NEED A NEW DOOR SWITCH.
-SE- error means you have a shorted membrane keypad.
You can buy the part for about 20 dollars off kenmore website. I wouldn't recommend leaving it plugged in. If you're able to still microwave things I wouldn't go far while something is cooking.
I will assume that you do not have any metal items or bits of tinfoil lying around inside the oven. If the sparks are happening on the inside of the microwave's cooking area while you are cooking, then make sure you clean the inner surfaces really well. Be sure to remove any cooked on food particles that may have splashed up during cooking.
Most likely you have some corrosion or dried food debris inside the cooking area, or perhaps even some food particles stuck to your WAVEGUIDE COVER PLATE. A dirty waveguide cover plate can certainly cause the arcing and sparking you describe. If the thorough cleaning does not work, you may need to replace the waveguide cover. Here is a link to a short video that shows you exactly how to replace the wave guide cover yourself:
Just use your mouse to click on the link, which is the underlined and highlighted text just above. This will open a new web browser page automatically for you and allow you to view the video at the website indicated.
If the sparks are coming from somewhere other that the cooking area, then your unit may need more significant electrical repairs or service.

some of these unit detect heat from the stove while cooking.there are designed to turn the exhaust fan on until the temprature gets cooler to prevent any interior damage.
there also could be a problem with your microwave circuit board.
check with whirlpool and see if there is any recalled notices for you microwave
hello mam
i am having the solution for this problem check the lock terminals for loose connection and if its working and check the magnetron which produses the heat inside the microwave.
Hello, inside most microwaves, there is a thermal fuse, that if something in the cooking cavity is on fire, it will melt the thermal fuse, if it gets hot enough, thus breaking the power to the unit shutting it off. This sounds like what has happened to yours, simply replacing it will correct the problem. It is usually located near a cavity exhaust point. If you aren't comfortable doing this, as it requires removing the outer cover, while unplugged, and locating/replacing it, take it to a appliance service co. This will of course cost more, if you do it yourself, make sure you provide all of your make/model/serial/anything else, that will identify your unit, and call/go online to a parts retailer, and you should be able to get it done fairly cheap.
Your problem is due to the "magnetron" arcing to the wave guide within the microwave. Picture someone arc-welding stuff together inside the microwave casing, that's essentially what's happening. It is a fire hazard and you should stop using the microwave immediately. As far as I know, there isn't a recall on that particular model (though there was on another similar Kenmore/Whirlpool model) so if it's out of warranty, you're out of luck.
You are running the risk of damaging the Magnatron by doing this.
Check the packets you are using, you will have to reduce your power output.
This is because microwaves act by being absorbed by water. There is very little in popcorn and in fat. Once this has been evaporated, the microwave energy builds up (as it is still being produced - but not absorbed), and ends up cooking the magnatron itself.
I have seen countless posts on here after cooking popcorn!
More fun on the hob anyway - and cheaper to buy in bulk!
