I have a Karcher K3.86 M electric PW with a water leak problem that also causes the pressure to surge on and off. It appears that the plastic pump housing might be cracked but the crack is so thin it's hard to know for certain. I read on another site that these plastic pumps will crack if water is left in them and it's allowed to freeze in the winter. I think that might be what happened to mine but I cannot be certain.

I have a Karcher K 3.86 M electric PW with a similar problem: water leaks from the pump near the outlet and the pressure surges on and off continuously at intervals of 1-2 seconds. The leak appears to be coming from a very thin crack in the plastic pump head in what I think is the "unloader" valve portion. I read elsewhere that if you leave water in these PW's and it freezes it will crack, causing leaks. I don't know how you can empty all the water out so I think we must store these PW's in areas that won't freeze in winter.

Karcher pressure washers are very sensitive to over-winter freezing. The plastic parts break, and you have to replace all of the leaking parts.
You may be missing a locking tab, without seeing the thing apart next to the exploded parts view, it's really hard to tell. Search google for "karcher parts", and put in your model number...
If there is no Karcher agent near you, most hardware shops and bearing outlets keep a range of o rings in stock. Take samples ot the part with you to get the correct size and thickness of o ring for your needs. Remember to put a bit of lubricant on the o ring when installing it.
this sounds like the seals may have been damaged inside the pump or that the water inlet/outlet could be damaged. If you take off the front cover (use a star bit screw driver) then run the pressure washer you will be able to see were it is leaking from and then you can get the right part to replace it.
HI Your machine wil start and stop if you have any external leaks when the machine is running at not pressing the trigger. Please start the machine and not pull the trigger and look form leaks. A common one is around the high pressure hose outlet and also the trigger.
Plastic Pump Manifold is cracked.
