Double click on the sound icon in sys tray to access properties and disable from there or just turn the slider all the way down

You should be able to mute it in the sound mixer. That yellow speaker in the System Tray (double left click). Remember to select the Recording one from the top menu if necessary to pull up the sliders and mute buttons display.

If i record in my compaq nx9500 after the recording if i play it it will give me some sound under the recording

If you're using the built in the mic that's feedback because laptop mics are low powered they have the gain boosted in Windows. Try using an external mic and check the setting on the volume settings for recording devices. (Right click the volume icon)

If it's a buzzing/squealing noise you're concerned about that might be "ground loop" usually caused by having the laptop plugged into the mains or less commonly having loads of cpu intensive applications running in the background.

Also if the laptop is on a hard surface make sure that it isn't vibrating because the mic sensitivity will pick it up and because of the gain boost it will be amplified.
Gain = Volume

Hope that helps

Just plugging in the external mike into the jack should AUTOMATICALLY disconnect the internal mike.

My mircophone is not working on my MSI laptop

Hello Freshnoble, hi! try first the sound recorder program, for testing purposes, if you are using XP, it goes, start, all programs, accessories, entertainment, sound recorder. Shout on the mic, you should see wave pattern on the sound recorder program. if not. the problem can be hardware and/or software. If its the hardware, check the microphone, is the mic built-in or are you using an external mic? if built in, try to enable first the microphone, right click the speaker on the lower right side of windows, select adjust audio properties, sound, at this point you should see the sound recorder device, select mic volume and adjust it all the way. test again the sound recorder. If you did not reach this point, there is some thing wrong with the device driver, load the sound driver first and test the mic again.

I have an acer aspire one netbook and would like to know how to sue the built in microphone. i see the little icon and hole near the built in web cam but cant figure out how to use it to record lectures...

In your start menu, all programs you can go to accessories and select entertainment. there is a sound recorder program in there. by default you will record from the mic next to the cam.

here is the problem. Those mics are pretty direct dimensional and will not pick up soudn more than a few feet from them. You will be better off getting an external mic and adjusting its volume over trying to use the builtin one

How do i connect an external microphone to my philips freevents x55. only the built in microphone is working. an externally connected mic does not over-ride the internal one?

Your default recording device is still set on the built-in mic.

In Microsoft XP...
Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel and double-click the Sounds and Audio Devices tab
Select the Voice tab and choose the the appropriate item in the Voice recording Default device pop-up menu.

In Vista, choose Start> Control Panel > Sounds and click on the Recording tab.

In both instances, choose your external mic as the default.
Windows XP 1 Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel and double-click theSounds and Audio Devicescontrol panel.
2 Select the Voice tab and choose the the appropriate item in the Voice recording Default device pop-up menu.

Cannot get laptop microphone working

Double click on the little speaker icon on the Desktop toolbar at the bottom right of your screen. The volume control window will open. Click on options then properties. Next check the small round recording button. Now make sure he microphone box is checked then click ok. Now a window will open that will show your microphone recording level. Move the slider up about half way and make sure to check the small "Select" box near the bottom of the slider. Open up sound recorder or whatever application you are using and try to record. If this does not work I would get an external microphone plug it into your laptop and try recording again. If the external mic works then I would think that you internal microphone is not working. There are some very cheap external mics on the market that sound very good. If you are doing any serius recording you may want to invest in a USB microphone. The USB mic should come with it's own software and setup should be pretty simple. I hope I have been helpful.
