Blue Screen After a very short while my picture flickers and then it turns completely blue. The sound remains fine and I can change channels...but can't see anything but a blue screen. When I change to a DVD it does the same thing...it's ok for a while then goes blue.

This intermittent problem is very difficult to rectify. Just contact the authorised service center for Hitachi at your town. The work is really a skilled one, that a user cannot do it with ease.
LCD's use a colorful crystal see through display which only visible when light is shining through it. if you have sound and no picture it's always a faulty PSU. Very easy to change out actually.
This could be a reception problem of the cable transmission or the cable box if used. Are you using cable or SAT box. Tv goes to blue screen if signal is weak automatically.
Check the signal type. It may be set incorrectly.
Change the channel. You may be on a blank channel.
Check to see if the TV is tuned to channel 3 or 4 if you are watching a videotape.
Check the TV/VCR button on the VCR is in the correct mode by pressing the TV/VCR button on your VCR.
sounds like 2 different problems here.
first problem sounds tuner related.
second sounds convergence related.
third issue (cost effective to repair ?)
at this point i would replace the set.
i hope this helps
