Question about Philips 60PP9202 60" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television
Our Philips 60 inch rear projection tv has a red convergence problem. The tv starts ok but in about 10 seconds the red bows and is hour glass shaped. Can we fix this inexpensively or just buy a new tv.
Depending on how old it is, it will either have a special menu (you will need to enter service mode to access it, need model number for that), or a panel in the back that you remove a few screws to gain access to. If it is the panel in the back, you will see about 20-50 little potentiometers, that have a slot in the top. Go to Radioshack, buy a TV alignment kit, stock number 64-2230. The pots will be in rows and columns, usually...and they should be labeled. Find the column/row for the red, and the pot for pincushion, which is the issue you are describing. With someone looking at the TV, and it on, turn that pot until the pincushion looks normal.

Hello Anthony14,
This is an indication the the red convergence amplifier has goone bad you will need to replace the convergence correction modules. Now before replacing these you may want to make sure that the bias resistors and the zener diodes are ok. The convergence ICs are part number STK329-110 or STK329-150.
I would suggest that you get a schematic and equipment to make the needed tests, or take the set to a shop to replace the bad components.
I hope this helps,
Thank you,
