This TV has gone bonkers. It comes on by itself sometimes. If I turn it on, it changes channels or goes into programming mode. This happens 100% of the time. I've tried taking the batteries out of every remote in the house, figuring a stray signal was causing this, but that didn't stop it. I've noted that some strain on the cable seems to have bent the cable jack slightly, but I don't think that caused this. Solutions appreciated!
The optimal solution is classic American capitalism and violence at its best. Get yourself a hammer - no, NO! not that one, a BIG one, and beat that piece of junk to bits and rejoice at the little "pop" when the vacuum tube explodes. Carry the remains to the curb with the rest of the garbage. Then go buy an LCD HDTV (plasma even better) on credit since you don't have the cash, and move on.
Just pay the $25 per month on the card and rejoice. You'll feel better. We'll all feel better. There is no debtor's prison. I hope someday you'll join me, and the world can live as one.

Re: Switches channels etc. on its own
Perhaps your neighbours have the same tele and the same remote......its not unheard of they may be in the direct line to your TV. Other than that I cant see that a tele can do all this by itself. Im not being cheeky here it is NOT logical?

Sounds like your tact switches on the front of the TV are shorting out. Unplug the plug for the switches. if the problem goes away then try to clean the switches with rubbing alcohol, if still has problem replace switches.
The black box is a text box for closed captioning. Some stations send the signal which turns on the box while not actually broadcasting any text. Go into your setup menu and turn off closed captioning, or at least change it to a different mode. The easiest option is to restore factory presets.
The most likely problem is a stuck tact switch, if it goes up in channel number, 5, 6, 7, etc. then the channel up button is stuck, if it counts down it`s obviously the ch. down button. Problem is you have to remove the guts of the set to get at the control boards screws, you can try turning on the set and poke around the offending push button with a tooth-pick, if it stops changing channels leave it alone and use your remote from now on to change channels, if you can`t get it to stop the tact switches or the control board module will have to be swapped out, hope this helps
The keyboard switches are going bad part# 432P109010 (there are ten of them). To verify this, disconnect the connecting wire to the keyboard pc board and see if you still have the problem- the remote will still function normal- the green power led will not light up when you power on the TV with it disconnected
so listen for the click and wait for the TV to power up when you use the remote.
