Thank you. I have a kenmore washer, the style that load from the front; high output 4t. the washer refuses to drain, and has stopped when it gets to this part in the cycle. I have unplugged the machine, and got it to move again, although now the only thing i can hear is a motor noise from the washer with it still not draining.
Tommy, you have debris in the drain pump. This will be a wet and messy repair, so be prepared. Unplug the washer before reading further! You'll need to look way down next to the floor at the bottom of the lower front panel. There are three "TORX" (star shaped) screws there, remove them. Lower the panel about 3/4" or so and tilt the bottom toward you, then set the panel and screws aside. Right in the front, you'll see the drain pump and drain trap. Look closely at it... there's a big black accordion shaped hose going into the pump, this is the suction hose. Another, smaller one, exiting the pump... this is the discharge or drain hose. If there's any way for you to do this, do it... you need to "pinch off" or clamp the suction hose as tight as possible to avoid dumping water all over the floor in the next step. If you can find hose clamp pliers like this... http://www.thetoolwarehouse.net/shop/media/KD-145.jpg , it'd be worth your while. Now that the hose is clamped off, see that 3 1/2" wide plastic housing the drain pump is hooked up to? You need to unscrew the drain trap access (counter-clockwise) then pull it completely out. Inspect the piece you just removed and remove any debris. Inspect inside the housing, look for socks, underwires, etc... and clean it out completely. Stick your finger into the pump intake and feel around for any debris. This should do it! Reassembly is the reverse order. Good luck and don't wear any clothes you treasure while doing this job. (should take ~45 minutes to complete)

Kenmore front washer seems to leave gunk with the clothes the drain hose did have a fair amount of gunk in it. Is there a way to rinse and unclog???

He's right. That is where your problem is. Trust me. It happened to me.

If you can drain the water from the drain line can there still be an obstruction in the pump? I thought an obstruction in the pump would keep it from draining through the hose.

Solution Guy. There are 20 ways to skin a cat and your worked. The only tweek I would add is instead of trying to pinch off the suction hose you should just unhook the drain line from the top of the back housing and snake it down below the pump and drain off the water. It was an easier solution for me. Thanks, Steve Davis

Hello & Welcome to FixYa
F02 is a drain error in your Kenmore washer, if
the unit is unable to drain then after 4 minutes it will display suds and then
F02. The first thing that should be done is cleaning the drain hose and the
drain pump filter, you can take out three torx screws from the bottom front
panel and then clean the area completely, lift up the cap to clean the filter.
If the error returns then check the drain pump if it is not working then
replacing the pump is recommended repair. Please get back to me if you have any
other questions.

Same machine type and exact problem as tommy3's. Thinking it might be a plugged up pump, I took the front and back panels off (after draining the machine and disconnecting power and water hoses). After moving the clip that holds the hose to the pump, I could not get the hose to come loose???? Any suggestions?
