I have a Sony KP-51HW40 TV that is about 5 years old. Couple weeks ago, the image shown on the screen suddenly becomes out of shape. All three colors are out of alignment and the image is bended at the center - almost like a picture squeezed from top to bottom in the middle so that the top edge of the picture is bended down and the bottom edge of the picture is bended up.
I read some articles on the net and thought it might be due to the convergence IC (STK392-560) got broken. I replaced the ICs (two of them), but the problem is still there.
It would be greatly appreciated if you could provide some help.

Re: Image is totally distorted
Did you also replace the bias resistors required when you converted from STK392-110 to the higher STK392-xxx modules? If I wer you I would go back to the orginal modules only new ones. Then I would also get a schematic to test the voltage levels on the chips to make sure they are the same as on the schematic.

You will need the service manual to locate the blown resistors and or the circuit protectors in this TV set. If you know how to read the service manual, the schematic, and trace the circuit, know how to use and ohm meter and a volt meter, I am sure we can fix this set together. Let me know with an e-mail address so I can save you 30 bucks for the service manual. Good Luck
Yes, this problem can be fixed if you are handy with electronics stuff repair and can solder parts in circuit board easily with proper tools. Replace convergence out ICs to get converge picture. Let me know exact model number and brand of your TV for further info as question shows its Sony KP-51HW40 tv.
Well repair of TV depends on your own skills and if you have any experience of electronics stuff repair then it would not be difficult. This kind of repair requires good parts soldering in PCB expertise.
Your Sony KP-51HW40 seems have problem with convergence out ICs (two ICs) that would be replaced. Both ICs STK392-560 are located on D Board and available in Part Store. Thanks.
I read it online that this is a very simple problem. It needs highvoltage splitter. I tried to open the front panel to see where the splitter is. However, I need some hint as to how to open the front panel. Good luck.
