We need to know what is happening when you try to play a sound.
Do you hear anything?
This is a laptop and you can turn the sound on and off by using your keyboard--pressing the function key at the bottom left of your keyboard and then pressing the sound volume key which is one of the function keys at the top of the keyboard (the ones with the little speaker pictures on them).
Your Toshiba may also have a volume control on the side of the machine.
You must also check the control panel (the icon that says sounds and audio devices). Does it show a sound device when you click on it? Check to see if the "mute" box is checked. If so, uncheck it.
When you click on the Sounds tab, can you see Windows events at the bottom of the screen with little speakers beside them? If so, can you click on one of the events and then click on the right arrow just to the right of the sound events? Is the arrow dark or light when you click on the sound event? If it's dark, you should hear the sound. If it's light, you need to go to Toshiba's website and download the correct sound drivers for your computer.
