I just got the vizio 42 inch tv i pluged it in and for a minute and a half it worked then it went off. There is no power at all not even the name display in the front , no standby either. I called Vizio and they told me that it may be a power supply problem but they were not very helpfull. I wanted to know what i could do to try and solve this problem .If that means opening the back of the LCD so be it but i am not sure what to look for i can not find any spcs for this tv that show me what to do . I hope to hear from you soon thanks
It's very easy to swap the entire power supply board. If it's out of warranty, what do you have to loose? You can purchase a new power supply board from Vance Baldwin. They are the ONLY parts supplier for Vizio. http://www.vancebaldwin.com/ Once you receive the new board, it's just plug and play. Crack the case (a series of small screws around the back perimeter) and remove the old power board and replace it with the new one. It's that easy!

Mine had the same thing - if you open it up there are 2 10v capacitors - i replaced them for $2 and it has been working fine every since.

First of all, make sure the power cable and power socket are in working order. Plug in the TV to a different power socket, using a different power cable; use the cable to plug in a different appliance as well. If power cable and power socket are in working order, and the standby/on indicator light in the TV does not light up when it's powered on, that means a TVs Power Supply Unit is faulty and you will have to get it fixed. Opening up the TV may void the warranty. Talk to TV Manufacturer's Tech Support. Since you just got the TV, it should be within Dead on Arrival period (at least 7 days) and you'll be able to get another TV; or within Manufacture's warranty period (at least 1 year) where you'll get the TV repaired free of charge. Good luck.

My power on my Vizio tv not coming on

I had the same problem. Vizio is fixing my TV for free because I had it for less than a year. They also offer extended warranties for about 100 bucks a year. Lot better deals then good old wallmart or best buy. Oh and the customer service was very friendly

I had the same problem and it was about to go out of warranty in a month. it took the removal of 44 screws for the tech to get to the problem and he ordered the part. it will take another 10 days to get the tv back together. seems to be a fairly common problem on these sets.

I had the same problem. First i tried the power supply and it didn't work same thing. Then I replaced the Main board and that fixed the problem. I have a picture with no sound. So i hooked surround sound to my cable box and it works fine just glad it has a picture now and dont have to buy a new one. Pretty easy fix.

SOURCE: Vizio 42 inch tv Power Not working
It sound like the power supply problem. Replace the power supply will fix it. The power supply is located near the main board.

i have the same problem with mine same tv it could be two things the power unit whitch the power button is connected to or the power supply im going to buy both but its all over the web about these lcd tvs power supply going out thats what happends when we go cheap lol next time sony or sharp.
We have a 42" visio and had it just shut down on us with no standby light or any other sign of the set being on. Checked the power supply even changed out the cord with another visio set we have and nothing. Lucky Mathews, [email protected]
I have the Vizio 42" as well, since Feb 2008 - I was watching TV last weekend and all of a sudden I heard a loud "snap" and the power completely shut down on the TV - not even a glow on the nameplate. Nada. Ordered a new power supply on eBay so we'll see what happens.
My wife bought a 42" Vizio from Wal-Mart on 01SEPT08--today is 07DEC08 so the Wal-Mart 90 return policy expired 6 days ago. Last night, right in the middle of a movie..."click", no power...no lights...nothing. I had to unplug the tv, plug it back in and turn the power back on. Power lasted for about an hour and a half and then same thing. Today, Sunday...same thing. Called Vizio Tech Support during their hours of operation and got a voice message telling me to call back during the hours I was already calling. Emailed Tech Support, contacted BBB after reading all of these forums...What does it take to get a class-action lawsuit? This is not how business is supposed to be conducted in this country. Imagine if you did your job with such disregard to customer service.
Any ideas out there?
