Question about Compaq Presario 900US Notebook
I recently started noticing that my laptop's power cord was not making good contact with the notebook. I had to adjust the connecting piece is strange ways make contact so the computer would stay on. Then no contact could be made at all. I think this may be a problem with the connection inside the laptop itself. I tried taking the screws out of the bottom of the computer to disassemble it. However, I could not take the bottom off entirely. It seems there is something preventing it from opening all the way. Anyone have knowledge of how this thing comes apart?
I've fixed a couple and finally resorted to using a cable retention device like the one in this video to stop the constant tugging and jerking that seems to cause the failures. PS the design of the pins/sockets is really shabby.

If you do a Google search on your PC with the word "disassemble" or "repair instructions" you will likely get a hit. After you carefully get the motherboard out, the problem is typically bad solder joints on the dc port to motherboard. Make sure to use the least heat (that is, lowest wattage soldering iron) possible to remelt the solder. There are a few sites you can Google for "dc power port repair." If you are unable to do this many small firms advertise the service. Good luck

As Pastorm stated it could be the socket, however, it could also be damage to the power plug that plugs into the laptop. My experience has been that I?ve had to replace far more damaged jacks by far then sockets. Usually what happens is that someone trips over the power cord and puts strain on the cable where it attaches to the jack. A quick test is to plug the DC jack into the laptop and while holding the jack still wiggle the cable where it attaches to the jack. If that doesn?t do it try holding the jack and wiggling it in the laptop socket. One or the other should cause a break in the power and you?ll know what to get fixed or replace.

It seems like the power jack on the laptop has to be resoldered to the motherboard. More than likely you will have to take the whole laptop apart to reach the bottom part of the motherboard and do de soldering work.
