What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Turn off QoS options.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.
What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred is WPA2 and Cipher type to AES only if your device support this.
you'll probably find the router is set up to ignore ping requests, most are by default, for better results, try pinging a website and compare the results both with and without the switch. The switch shouldn't make any noticable difference to your connections, I use one and there's not perceivable difference in performance.

Hi,
DLink DES 1016D is seems to be an Layer 2 unmanaged switch which can not provide IP addresses.
If this switch is connected with a router or a DHCP server then it can pass the IP address to any connected device.

This is a simple network switch and it doesn't require any drivers. You just connect all the computers & other network devices to it using twisted pair LAN cables and that's it.
Hold down the rest switch on the back for 30 seconds. Go to start, run, type in cmd and hit enter. When the dos screen comes up type in ipconfig. This should give you the gateway address for the router. I think the standard ip for dlink is 192.168.0.1
