Have you replaced the ink cartridge recently? Service error 6502 is an ink tank position sensor error. Service error 6502 generally means that your ink cartridge chips cannot be recognised. The primary cause of this is the blockage of the LED. Ensure that no tape, glue etc is covering the chip or LED on the rear of the cartridge. Problem more prevalent on third party replacement cartridges or ink systems.

Have you tried using a recommended cleaning solution and servicing your printhead as well as the cartridge itself. I refill my own cartridges and always clean the heads and cartridge before filling and replacing. I have done so on this brand and type of printer with no problems.

I could see some small smudges and I just gave my cartridges a quick wipe over the computer chips and that fixed it.

That saved me a 3 hour round trip and $100 or more dollars in costs. I rang Canon who directed me on to some (far-away) dealers and no one could even tell me what the error meant - let alone how to fix it.

I just gave my cartridges a quick wipe on the chips and saw some smudges come off. Then the printer worked fine.

That saved me a three round trip to the nearest service station and about $200. I rang them and Canon and neither of them could tell me what number meant.

I have an i4000 with the dreaded 6502 error. It happened after it chewed up a sheet of paper. I think the position of the printerhead was messed up, there was a rattling sound while the printhead was stuck in the paper. I switched the printer off. Then moved the head by hand all the way to the left, where it made a sharp 'click'. Then switched it back on. The head moved all the way to the right, another sharp 'click' and all was fine after that.

My printer is a Canon MG6150, I had the same error after unplugged the power because a kid was playing with the printer. I took all the cartridges out and put them back. Turn off the printer properly, unplugged the power for 5 sec, plugged back the power and turn on the printer. It works.

Pls do the following :-

Error code 6502 The Error code 6502 can occur in the printer as a result of ink tubes caught under housing and jammed the print head against the right hand side of the printer. The printer is unable to do anything now and it will give an alarm light only. To fix this issue, you need to unplug the printer and then plug it back. You need to press and hold the power button of the printer and click the Stop button twice. You can then release the Power button and press Stop button for four times. The issue will be fixed and you can start your print jobs.

The error 6502 is an "Ink tank position sensor error". It may be that the sensor is dirty and needs cleaning. Make sure you haven't got any bright lights shining into the printer.

Changed ink cartridge and now have error 6502 - have no clue what that means, but it won't print - yellow and green light alternate flashing

Error Code 6502 appears generally after changing a cartridge.

Solution:
  1. Unplug the printer.
  2. Remove the faulty Cartridge
  3. Plug in the printer and press and hold power button
  4. Keep it held down. Press Resume twice, and this should reset the fault.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response
