Communications helper.exe could someone please tell me why the Communications helper.exe that runs with the quickcam connect continues to keep on using up memory even when the camera isnt in use, the only way I seem to rectify this, is if i turn it off in task manager but then obviously the camera wont work at all then, is this a problem with all Logitech cameras, or just this one? as apart from this the camera works well, thanx for any replies, Simon

Sounds like Communications helper.exe its some type of driver and/or windows service. This would be the same for all cameras and other computer devices that utilize the Communications helper.exe driver/service. It might be possible to stop Communications helper.exe or its alias from running at start-up but its not recommended as you probably will loose functionality of the camera.

The problem with this camera driver is that the helper.exe is used to retrieve info from the net about new drivers and updates and it also sets up the sound and everything else to do with the camera, if this is dissabled; as you rightly mention you cannot use the camera so unfortunately you have to keep the file running.

Fuse and relay diagrams for 2005 F250 V10 gas motor

Principles of Operation
The vehicle has 3 module communications networks:
  • controller area network (CAN)
  • international standards organization (ISO) 9141 communications network
  • universal asynchronous receiver-transmitter (UART) based protocol (UBP) communications network
The diagnostic tool connects to the communications networks through the data link connector (DLC). The DLC allows a diagnostic tool access to diagnose and test the vehicle systems of any module on the communications networks.
The CAN has an unshielded twisted pair cable, data plus circuit 1908 (WH) and data minus circuit 1909 (BK). The CAN is a communications network used for the anti-lock brake system (ABS) module, the instrument cluster, powertrain control module (PCM) and the trailer brake controller communications. The CAN remains operational even with the severing of one of the CAN circuits but operates at a degraded level. Communications also continue at a degraded level if one of the CAN circuits are shorted to ground or voltage, or if some but not all termination resistors are lost.
The ISO 9141 communications network is a single circuit communications network, circuit 70 (LB/WH). The ISO 9141 communications network does not permit intermodule communication. When the diagnostic tool communicates to modules on the ISO 9141 communications network, the diagnostic tool must request all information or initiate module commands. The ISO 9141 communications network is a communications network used for the 4-wheel drive (4WD) control module, the parking aid module and the restraint control module (RCM) communications. The ISO 9141 communications network does not function if the circuit is shorted to ground or voltage. Also, if one of the modules on the ISO 9141 communications network loses power or shorts internally, communications to that module fail.
The UBP communications network is a single circuit communications network, circuit 693 (OG). The UBP communications network is a communications network used for the electronic automatic temperature control (EATC) module, the instrument cluster and the vehicle security module communications. The UBP communications network does not function if the circuit is shorted to ground or voltage. The UBP communications network is different from the ISO 9141 communications network in that it allows intermodule communication.

Hi, i tried using skype with logitech quickcam but pup-up told me this message: Another application (communications helper.exe) tries to access Skype but we are not able to respond. Try to restart the...

The easiest thing to try is just disabling "Communication_Helper.exe" in Skype. Go to Skype / Tools / Options / Advanced, and at the bottom you will see text that says "manage other programs' access to Skype". Click that and you'll get a window, which should list "Communication_Helper.exe". Deny access to that (don't remove it, because it will just come back), and try your call again.

Be aware, however, that this is only a quick fix and does not solve the problem. When Logitech and Skype have problems like this, they can be pretty big ones, and can cause performance problems as well as interface problems.

The Logitech QuickCam application software is not required for the Logitech Camera to function properly in Skype. If you are not using the QuickCam application for anything else, then you should seriously consider uninstalling it.

That will solve this problem, and various other potential problems and performance issues, permanently.

To uninstall it just go to Control Panel / Add or Remove Software (or Uninstall a Program in Vista/7), find "Logitech QuickCam" (NOT Logitech Camera drivers), and uninstall.

Then reboot to get rid of the background processes, and test Skype again.

Skype sound test

This means you need to tweak the volume levels a little and maybe also change the recording levels.

Echo is a common thin with VOIP communications and it may not go away fully but tweaking your levels shoul minimise it.

Also do not use VOIP type communications on low speed connections
