Hello.. my name is Scott and i have a problem with my printer .. it is a Canon MP170 and i have had it for about 12 months. the first time i replaced the INK with a non gen colour ink it came up with a error saying nged it and now it has a UNKNOWN Error on the Printer screen saying: U051 and BLK INK VOL UNKNOWN & COL INK VOL UNKNOWN.. I have a brand new gen canon black ink. if someone can give me steps to fix this problem that will be GREAT.. i was told there was a INK Reset button or something like that once you got new ink you are meant to press RESET or something i have no idea what that is meaning. please email me on [email protected] with helps for this ASAP!
thank you very much
Something that worked for me, I opened the Conon MX310. took out both cartridges, and for 10 seconds I held the Reset. put the cartridges back in, closed the lid, and again, for another 10 seconds held the reset. SLOW seconds. this reset, ink levels recognised,, and it's working as it should be.
How do you turn off the ink status monitor????????? I've been through the entire array of "Menu" options and there is nothing apparent. I have the same "col vol unknown" error, but I'm using a real Canon printer cartridge. Needless to say, I'm frustrated beyond compare.

Good morning, my name is Steve. Have you tried another wall socket? If you are using a power strip, unplug the printer from it and plug directly into the wall. Check connection that is plugged into the back of unit. Sometimes a little nudge can cause the problem. I do not know how long you have owned this printer, but if it is out of warranty, Canon will sell you a "refurbished' like=item" for very much less. Also it would not hurt to get extended warranty for the next printer, whom-ever you purchase your next printer. Like Canon, they have given the inkjet printer a new name....useful life.Remember the printer manufacturing companies came up with a solution to "color-based" printing needs and these smaller, convenient solutions were created to market the ink. Sorry about the bad news. Think about how much you use the color printing. If you use it quite a bit 2-3 times a month. Or if you have children who use it for school projects, the dry-ink printer (laser) have considerably come down in price. Just something to consider. The wet inkjet type printers do not have user replacement parts other than a power cord or different type of photo paper. Sorry I could not give you any better solutions.Let me know if you have any other questions,I'll be happy to answer them, Best regards,Steve
Always check the batteries first but if is it still giving the same fault, your camera is faulty. It should be taken to an authorized repair centre for a repair estimate. Very few digital cameras have any user-serviceable parts.

I could make several suggestion to "fix" the problem, such as clean the timing strip, etc., but since your printer is still under warranty, I'd suggest contacting Canon for a repair / replacement due to a potential hardware problem. You shouldn't be getting a "Service error 5100" after a few months.
hi 6A00 is a problem with the sheet feed unit.it appeared that the print head carriage was stuck move the carriage manually for a few times left to right the problem was resolved. and also check for any torn paper piece in the printer.you can also blow the air in printer for dust and paper piece.
