Question about Nikon Coolpix 4200 Digital Camera
After two years of perfect functioning, all of a sudden, the camera will not operate with the USB cable connected. The power light does turn "on", but the lens doesn't open, the screen in back remains dark, and the Windows program does not pop open. The camera works perfectly without the USB cable connected. I can take pictures just fine. I have search the manual and followed all the steps on page 135 for trouble shooting. I have completely recharged the battery. Would a two year old battery just be starting to go bac? I have not ever replaced the battery. It operates the camera OK still.
It's a long shot but it might be a problem with the cable itself, or it could be a problem with your USB ports on your PC, not supplying enough power.

I feel pretty dorky......but I left the battery in the charger all night and tried it one more time just now.......and it works! I don't know if that means I was just trying with a not-well-enough charged battery, or if the battery is starting to wear out. It is a EN-NL5 which I have been using for 2-3 years. How do you know when you need to replace the rechargable battery?
