SOURCE: have a gateway Mt3708 it started turning off on
when the logo comes on, press the "tab" key. It should turn the logo off and show you what the computer is doing. This may help:
THIS IS FOR HP AND COMPAQ USERS (it might help others as well)
i had the same problem with my compaq preasrio v6000.
ALL U HAVE TO DO IS
1- START UP UP UR COMPUTER AND PRESS F10
2-GO TO DIAGNOSTICS
3-RUN A HARD DISK TEST
IF IT PASSES THEN YOU JUST NEED TO RE-INSTALL TO YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM
IF NOT YOU WILL HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR HARD DISK.
Or try this:
Go into the BIOS.. Go into the BOOT options.. and hit Shift+1 to disable the Realtek boot option.. pop in the disk you want to boot from.. and make sure you set your boot options to CD-Rom and then HDD.. and just wait.. be patient.. and the blue screen (for booting) will show up! :)

reboot your laptop , read the screenwhen it says press ? for boot menu
press (f8) for bios
press the one that says boot menu and then when it asks you where to boot choose the one that says hard drive. when that boots up and works. you need to restart your pc and press the f8 one to go into bios, then go to the boot tab, and change it to boot 1st from your hdd. somehow it got changed and it is looking somewhere else for the boot directions and its making errors

It sounds like your hard disk has gone, or not being recognized by the computer... Check if it seats well in it's place.
Unfortunately, laptop HDDs don't last long these days.
