Gateway Laptop with windows 8. Mouse pointer gone and won't come back

I got my kids a new Gateway laptop with windows 8 for Christmas. I was writing an email in I.E. and left it open for an hour and came back. When I came back, my mouse pointer through the touchpad was gone and I haven't been able to get it back. I've shut it off for days and it's not coming back. I hooked up a wireless mouse and that works but I can't get the touchpad mouse pointer to reappear. It's competely awol in the tile screen and in the desktop screen. HELP! This thing is only a month old!

See if the mouse pad has been accidentally turned off. This can be done via the "Function" button on your Gateway laptop. To enable your mouse clicker again on your Gateway, head on over to the "Control Menu" in Windows and double-click on the "Control Panel" icon. Click on the "Mouse" option under the "Printers and Other HardwareGateway Laptop with windows 8. Mouse pointer gone - icon1.png" tab. In the next menu that pops up, click on the tab listed as "Device Settings." From this menu, you should be able to locate a listing for the mouse pad on your Gateway laptop. Click on this listing. From here, you should be able to enable the mouse again. Click "OK."

  • Head over to the official Gateway site online (see Resources). The above enabling of the mouse device under "Device Settings" may not have worked. Make your way to the "Software and Drivers" area of the site.
  • Check over your Gateway manual and find your specific serial number for your machine. Enter the number into the Gateway site when prompted and check to see if any driver updates exist for your mouse on your machine. If so, click to download the update, and then double-click the file on your compGateway Laptop with windows 8. Mouse pointer gone - icon1.pngn>icon1.png to install it. Restart your Gateway laptop to have the changes take place. Your mouse should now work.

Neither of you have given the Printer Make and Model number. We can not help without this. This seems to be going around in circles on the board and asked different ways by different people. I have seen this at least 3 times now.

I had the same problem, but I fixed it.

Click start, type "msconfig," go to the "startup" tab, make sure that "synaptics pointing device driver" is checked. After you check the box, restart.

Gateway PC laptop mouspad not working

Check the control panel in two places:-

    1. Pointers to see if you can use the existing driver, it maybe disabled there, or the settings need to be changed.

    2. If it is disabled or unusable in pointers go to device manager and check if there is a yellow balloon next to the mouse, if so you have to replace the corrupt mouse driver software. global download gateway com

    Gateway Pointer Unresponsive

To troubleshoot this problem, first you must get a USB mouse and connect it to the laptop. Now, there are various laptop that have the ability to deactivate the pad control, it's different for every laptop, so you should check on the keyboard if you see anything that resemble the mouse pad. If it does, press it. There also could be a driver problem, just in case re-download the drivers by going to the Gateway website and click on the support tab. Just follow the instructions on the website. You should have an icon at the bottom right of your screen, where the date, battery, etc... are. Right click the mouse pad icon (if any) and check your options. If you need more help I'll be more than glad to help you out, but I'll be needing more info as to the laptop. Best of luck.

Mousepad on laptop too sensitive, jumps and opens links all the time

Hi I also have OS Vista, try this:-
go to the bottom left corner of the screen to the windows button and single click it, move the cursor to "control panel", leave it there and a whole new list of stuff will appear, move the cursor to "personalization" and click it once. This will open a box on the screen. Single click on "mouse pointers", this will open another smaller box with 8 tabs inside. You can click on any of these tabs and adjust your mouse actions to your own preferences, eg; how the pointer looks, how fast you double click, how fast the pointer moves on the screen, anything you like :)
Once you have made all your adjustments, click "apply" in the bottom right corner of the box and this will save the changes you've made.
    I hope this helps.

Pointer on laptop jumps to a different line while typing.

This may be caused by weak batteries, or interference by some nearby appliance (the worst case is another wireless mouse, of course: happened all the time in an office with six identical workstations, even to the two that were beyond a wall. But also wireless - not cellular - phones may interfere). Also the positions of receiver and mouse may play a part. Once sure the batteries work, try placing the receiver and mouse in different positions and see if it helps.
Otherwise, the receiver antenna could be defective.
