Question about iRiver PMP-120 Digital Media Player

I River Idiot !

My I River PMP-120 wont work ! It was fine earlier today. but now says I to have a boot failure. I spent half an hour looking at my car before I realised it had nothing to do with it. I must admit to being a bit of a simpleton when it comes to this sort of thing and at a loss as to what I should do next. Even my P.C isn't recognising it at the moment. Anyone got any ideas please? .... Keep it like me....simple.

But wehre can i get the firmware v1.23?

The HD may NOT be damaged. If the ROOT file somehow became corrupt or was wiped out you'll need to replace/dload the ROOT FOLDER firmware with your version v1.23 or higher for example. If your PMP doesnt take the info or won't dload then yes the HD is fried.

Dead Hard Drive. Thats all i can tell you. Did you hit a huge pothole or drop it today? With the way firmware is today you'll juest need to send him in. Sorry to say it, but that's the solution! thanks! Let me know of any followup needed

A boot failure means that the HDD is corrupt or the drive heads are damaged. The solution, unfortunately, is a drive replacement.

Please mark this as solved, as this is the solution: It only hurts my status if you levae it as almost there since this is the only solution! Thanks!

the latest firmware is 2.04 download HERE and follow instructions. HERE is the download link for the english version of the users manual. I had to add the .zip extension to it to make it extract but to answer your question it does not look like it supports .m4a files. Use THIS to convert yor .m4a files to .mp3

Boot failure or just nothing?

Boot failure would be the hard disk.
Just nothing would indicate that the system board is dead.

You don't mention using the mains power adaptor.

Iriver pmp 120 use the wrong charger

try this. the iriver doesn't boot at times ( wrong charger or using the right charger abroad), unlatch the battery and hold down the power button for about 20 seconds. also reset the instrument. hopefully that might work for you.

Iriver PMP-140 boot failure message

when i turn on my Iriver PMP-140 it comes up with a message reading
Boot Failure
System file has an error.
To solve the problem, connect the device to computor.
(refer to 'trouble shooting' on the manuel)
Filmware Ver. 1.24
I dont have a manual though.
