How do I activate this heart rate monitor

I have a Timex 1440 Sports heart rate monitor. I lost the instructions and I need to know how to activate (get it started!) Any suggestions?

Hennie, I own that model and in fact just returned from a bike ride using it.. I have the manual at home and if you email me I will check it when I get home from San Francisco on Weds. My home email is [email protected]. I am sure you checked the batteries. Mine ran right from the get go, right out of the box... 8/17/07 KW

Just purchased timex 1440sport watch with heart rate monitor strap and there is no date/time, etc. showing on screen and indigo lite does not glow. Battery dead or watch needs to be activated??

How do I get instructions
The instructions at the Timex site for a 1440 seem to be for a different watch than our 1440. We eventually found our copy of the instructions and they are titled W-163-US. I found these same instructions here:
