Hello, I have a Dell tower computer Dimension 4550 I haven't used it a lot. When I turn it on I now get a plug & play configuration error message all way down the screen and can't do anything with it

First thing I would check if anything outside of keyboard or mouse is in usb port like a drive for example. If not power on and press F8 to see if it will give you menu to boot in safe mode.

Plug & Play Configuration Error

restart your computer repeatedly tapping the f8 key to enter safe mode while the screen is black once in safe mode where the only things working will be your keyboard and mouse allowing you to attempt to repair your computer

you could select the option start at last known configuration that worked this will tell you if and what file has been corrupted or missing then you will know if its a hardware issue
hope this helps

Main OS does not mount

Boot in safe mode

Start msconfig.exe and configure windows to start with a clean boot.

a. Log on to the computer by using an account that has administrator rights.

b. Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER to start the System Configuration Utility.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.

c. On the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then click to clear the Load startup items check box. (The Use Original Boot.ini check box is unavailable.)

d. On the Services tab, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all.
Note Following this step lets Microsoft services continue to run. These services include Networking, Plug and Play, Event Logging, Error Reporting, and other services. If you disable these services, you may permanently delete all restore points. Do not do this if you want to use the System Restore utility together with existing restore points.

e. Click OK, and then click Restart.

Boot the machine in normal mode.

Plug and play configuration error.I have been told to press F1 key to continue BUT nothing is happening

restart the desktop, hit F2 as soon as it is booting. This will take you into setup.there you can see what is happenning under the plug and play heading, or set it to default and restart the computer.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response. Happy Holidays!

I have a va2223wm monitor out of the box..and trying to install. it is giving me an error that says out of range. what do i do?

Start the computer with the monitor attached. It should discover a plug and play monitor and adjust the resolution to a setting that your monitor accepts. If it doesn't, boot the computer with your old monitor, go to screen preferences, choose advanced, monitor, and change the monitor type (driver) to Plug and Play monitor. Now do what I suggested above.
