I need to know how to get into the service mode to try to realign the red convergence. I have been thru the setup menu and this does nothing. I turned the TV on yesterday and the red is all wacky. I open the back of the TV and place a sheet of paper over the red lens and it looks fine (except I get no red hue). How do I get into the service mode? I had a technician show me about 5 years ago but forgot. Help. Dave Email me [email protected]
It sounds like the convergence amplifier IC for the red crt is at fault. To check this, go into your user menu and pull up the red convergence. Try to move it up/down or side to side(it doesnt matter). If it moves up and down, then the vertical amp is working. Likewise if it moves side to side, then the horizontal part of the IC is working. If it dosen't move at all, or only moves up/down or side to side, then the IC is bad. There are 2 large IC's on the chassis, mounted to large heatsinks. They have STK392-110 or some variation of an STK392. If yow feel that the IC is bad, change the ic BEFORE you go into the service mode, as you wont need it if the ic is bad. To get into theservice mode: 1 make sure tv is in cable mode 2 set sleep timer to 30 minutes 3 tune to channel 124 4 use volume down on front of set to turn volume all the way down. ( writing will appear in the top left corner). 5 use remote control and press the power button. 6 the 7 button on the remote will put it convergence mode. Good Luck!

OK, Thank you.
Now another question.
I took apart the red lense to see if it was blocked. (Other than the 1/8 inch of dust on it) Stupidly I also removed the black bracket on the bottom of the lens. Water, or something like water, came out. I put everything back together but the liquid spilled on the circuit board. I have not yet plugged the TV back in. I am waiting for it to completely dry.
How bad did I screw up? What can be done to fix this. I am such an idiot.
