The NPS Main error is quite common and
well known problem by the Samsung. I suggest that when this happens you
restart your computer, then your phone. After you have done this, try
connecting again to your PC (it should not be necessary to click on
"Search devices", if you need to there is still a problem).
If this doesn't solve your problem you can try to install an even newer
version of New PC Studio (available under the GT-B2100). According to
me, you need to go to the Samsung website and download the update
software and the usb drivers for the phone , this should correct the
crashing issue on the pc.
Uninstall and install again while the internet is connected. It would
upgrade the PC studio after installation. The new firmware version IH8
is available through Samsung's New PC Studio which is currently only
available for Windows users.
A new version of New PC Studio has recently been released, which has
resolved this issue for many people. It can be found by visiting
www.samsung.com and
going to the download centre. The new software only appears under the
Tocco Ultra (GT-S8300) for the moment.
A step-by-step
version of my solution is here:
1. Make sure you have administrative
rights to the computer;
2. Install the USB Drivers from the CD ROM
(remembering that this doesn't actually install them at all on an XP
machine! I have no Vista or W7 environment to test with so I can't
comment if the behaviour is different);
3. Connect the phone using
the supplied USB cable and select PC Studio mode on the handset;
4.
Bring up the XP Device manager (right click on My Computer, select
Manage and click on Device Manager)
5. Find the SAMSUNG Mobile Modem
entry which should be identified as being in error state;
6. Right
click on SAMSUNG Mobile Modem and select Properties;
7. Go to the
Details tab and note the bit of the string between "&"s that
contains PID_xxxx;
8. Use Windows Explorer search to find the PID
string for your phone in the c:\Program Files\Samsung directory
hierarchy (should search all subdirectories) and note which USB Drivers
sub-directory contains the string. (Mine was '3', yours could be
different;
9. Go back to the Samsung Mobile Modem Properties panel
(from Device manager) and select General tab;
10. Using the Install
driver button to start the Hardware Update Wizard make sure the "Install
from a list or specific location (Advanced)" radio button is selected;
11.
Make sure the "Include this location in the search" tick box only is
checked;
12. Click "Browse" and navigate to the directory identified
at 8. above;
13. Click "Next" and hopefully the driver will be
installed;
14. If Device manager reports a different device in error
state then repeat from 9. for that device.
Hope this helps anyone
who is stuck with this.
