There is a way to reset the firmware to a more stable update, or rather an older firmware. Im not sure where to get the download but I do know that you access a debug menu by turning hold on, then press and hold the menu and record buttons to refresh the database with a new firmware. *WARNING* if you find the file to restore it, it will erase all of your previous files.

Cant get passed recovery mode

this came from another post on fix ya.

For me the solution was this:
After entering the recovery mode (turn off the player, move the hold button to the right, and press the on and rec button, then connecting to the computer).
when the 16 mb folder opens create a NEW FOLDER (not a text document) called "Sansa.fmt". then disconec the usb and it was fixed.

Winload.exe

Hi there.

When you turn the laptop on, keep pressing Alt+F10. This should open the recovery program. Follow the on-screen instructions for factory settings.

Let me know if this does/doesn't work.

My sansa e280 rhapsody says switch to recovery mode

Recovery mode is used to recover from a fatal error.

Follow these steps and youll be back in business.

Run the recovery tool from the SanDisk website. Make sure you select "format" when prompted.

http://www.sandisk.com/Assets/File/Downloads/firmware/e200fw01.00.12.exe

You need to put the device into "recovery mode" before you run the tool.

- Turn the device off (hold power for 20 seconds)
- Slide the hold switch into "hold" position.
- Press and hold the "record" button while connecting it to your computer. Keep holding the "record" button until you see the "new hardware found" on your computer.

Then run the recovery tool. Select format when prompted.

Best of Luck.
