one more thing... if you are able to boot with the windows installer disk... don't do a full install... try to do a recovery.

do you have the windows xp installer disk? can you boot the computer with the cd? you may have to change some settings in the bios (setup) to be able to do that.

put the disk in the cd, reboot and see if you are asked to hit any key to boot from the cd. if not, let me know and i'll tell you how to change the boot ordering.

have you tried booting into safe mode, or do you always choose start windows normally?

do you also have an option to boot into the last good version of windows?

Hi,
Click Start, Run. In the Run box, type "msconfig" without the quotes and press Enter. Click the
"BOOT.INI" tab, and uncheck the box, "/SAFEBOOT", Apply, OK

If the box is already unchecked, make sure that "/SAFEBOOT" is NOT in the Boot.ini statement.
It could have been added manually. Let us know if you need further clarification.

Thanks for contacting fixya.com

I got desktop rebooting that was solved by memory replacement, you have to determine what worked prior to the error and revert any change to another method

I have a Dell Latitude C800 and i cant get past the power-on BIOS password. Can you please help?

You can get the master password for your Dell by calling Dell Technical Support at (800)624-9896.
Dell Technical Support will request the Service Tag and Express Service Code from the bottom of your Latitude.
If you were not the original owner of the Latitude, Dell will transfer registration of the used Latitude from the original owner with only the Service Tag and Express Service Code from the tag on the laptop.
To transfer the registration of a used Dell Latitude, fill out the Transfer of Ownership form on Dell's web site.
