32" Sony Wega -- initial set-up menu constantly on

Hi! The "initial set-up" menu has begun (in the past week) to flash on and off repeatedly after the t.v. has been on for about 30 mins. We reset the channels which cycled from 1 - 49 but the menu still flashes on and off almost immediately afterward. Tried: unplugging the power (hard reset), tightened/rescrewed in the cable cords and checked that they are routed correctly from the VCR. Hoping you can offer some more suggestions. Thank you!

I have the exact same problem but these solutions didn't work. Any more clues on how to fix it? I tried SONY customer service but got an outsourced person who had no clue. Thank you.

While washing the screen of the tv some cleaner may have got to the buttons and casused some corrosion try pushing the buttons a few times at the front of the tv this usually works if not you need to have one of the buttons replaced..

Came across this because I was having the same problem. I was getting the menu immediately. It started with the remotes not working with the TV, so I unplugged it. Afterwards, the initial setup appeared, but couldn't complete. I don't have anything connected to the tuner, everything is on video inputs. Don't know why it wouldn't complete, it would get 20-40 channels into it, and stop, and the "initial setup screen" appeared. I ended up turning off all peripherals, waited about 10 minutes, then running the setup. it finally completed the scan of the tuner channels, and has not appeared since. Perhaps just an accidental solution, but hopefully something in there helps.

My volume on my sony tv wont go past 12 it will higher and lower but the maximum it will higher to is 12 have i maybe put a volume lock on it??

The only way the volume could be limited is if you were in the hidden tech menu----many of these sets have a setting there for initial volume level and maximum volume level.

Were you in the TECH menu for some reason?

I can tell you how to get in but you have to be very careful if you make any ADJUSTMENTS there--over 200 things can be adjusted there.

Let me know if I can help.

Hi,
If you are handy with TV repair then replace IC6501 and IC8002 on D board of TV or ask local TV repair shop to replace it. Both ICs have same number MCZ3001D

Sony Wega 32"TV - noise on startup

The slight flash on the screen is usually because the CRT (picture tube) is holding a better than average charge and this is what we call "pre-glow" The noise that you hear, is that everytime you turn it on or just after it has been off for a while? If only after the set has been sitting off for a while then your noise is the internal degauser for the CRT and that noise is 100% normal. The degausers in Sony TV's are so strong they usually make the plastic cabinet vibrate a bit.

Initial Setup flashing on and off

Heh. I just gave my set the "Fonzie treatment" after I was convinced the initial setup notice was messing with me. The problem cleared right up. No joke.
