Weird clicking noise and computer freezes.

When I turn on my laptop, after a few minutes (or occasionally right away, even on the start-up screens) it will make a weird clicking noise and then freeze.

I even tried reformating my computer, which didn't help (and during a few times, the computer even did the click noise and froze when it was in the re-activation process), and the problem still persisted.

Anyone know what to do?

Laptops have very few moving parts. Your problem is more than likely either a fan or your hard drive. Remove the hard drive, start the computer up and just let it run for awhile. If the clicking noise never comes up then thats your problem. If it does, its probably a fan.

Disregard anything on the screen itself, just let the PC run. It sounds like after the hard drive has been spinning for a minute a motor starts to die.

Clicking noise

the 'clicking' sound might be a defective hard drive, which also explains some of those other issues.seems that perhaps a local computer tech can easily identify that, and then you may need to do a hard drive recovery exercise to recover hard data.

My computer won't work

most clicking sound are made by failing harddrive... check with gateway people again if it is still under warranty and ask them to replace the drive or fix it.

fyi -- if it is really the hard drive that is making the clicking noise... there is a big chance that you will loose your data
