And, the nuvi cannot be used without them. Unit is about 4 months old and always worked fine. Brought in inside tonight to input address of trip and all these dots appeared on screen with words touch dot next to them I did this and it finally said your unit is calibrated? Now I screen freezes pon the message screen and never even get to screen that says where to and view map?

Pretty much the same as above. Have had unit for just over 5 months and has been workin fine until yesterday. Calibration screen came up when unit powered on then got same message about no detailed maps. Tried using the reset button then holding power button to left for 8 seconds, unit reset both times but got same message each time.

Try a Master Reset:
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} To perform a Master Reset on the nuvi 2xx series device:
Note: A master reset will erase all waypoints or favorites and will restore your unit to the default factory settings. But who cares if you have problems, right?

  1. Start with the unit OFF and unplugged from power
  2. Touch and hold the lower right corner of the screen with an index finger or the eraser end of a pencil
  3. Continue touching and holding the lower right hand corner of the screen then power the unit ON
  4. Release the power button when the device powers ON
    • You will see a new message: Do you really want to erase all user data?
  5. Remove your finger from the touchscreen when this message displays
  6. Touch Yes
The device will automatically reset. Follow the on screen prompts then place your device in an area with a clear view of the sky until it acquires satellites.

My gps says "no

Question: What should I do if my Garmin nuvi or zumo displays the message "No Detailed Maps Found That Support Routing" or "No Map Data Available?"
--> Answer: The "No Detailed Maps Found That Support Routing" or "No Map Data Available" message may appear on your device for the following reasons:
  • The GPS device is missing it's unlock code
  • The maps on the GPS device have been disabled
To determine the cause of the message, touch the screen until the message "No Detailed Maps Found That Support Routing" disappears.
  • If you see a "Can't Unlock Maps" message following this error, remove any microSD / SD cards in the device and follow the instructions below for Retrieving your unlock codes followed by the instructions for Creating an unlock file
  • If you do not get the Can't Unlock Maps message then skip to the instructions for Enabling maps on the GPS device
Retrieving your unlock codes:

Was working fine and suddenly deided to lose maps. message on screen says "no detailed maps found that support routing. The nuvi cannot be used without them." What happened and how do I GET THEM BACK. ...

Call up Garmin and have them walk you threw a trouble shooting procedure. It sounds like your unit has erased itself by no fault of yours. Garmin will replace it once you get ahold of them. There is not anything that we can do without thier support.

Garmin nuvi says, "no detailed maps found to support routing."

I am very sorry to hear that you are having problems with the unit. You
may need to switch the unit on and press and hold the centre of the
screen until the message ?No detailed maps? message disappears.

If your map detail is missing, then the map information may have been
disabled. To check to see if the mapping has been disabled, follow the
steps below:

From the Where to? and View Map page, touch the Spanner icon, settings
(Tools).
Touch Map.
Touch Map Info.
The unit should display the name of the map that is loaded to the unit.
The box in front of the map name should have a tick in it. If it does
not, touch the box to place a tick in it.

Then please test by searching for an address.
